Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

just put up 9 quarts of yellow squash. i have peaches and strawberrys ready to make jam tonight. already enjoying the new potatoes and radish.

Himrod, NY(Zone 6a)

We have picked 4 quarts of strawberries since Saturday night. This has to be the earliest ever.

Needless to say our veg. garden has been too wet to even plant, I envy you your squash.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

i just love squash cooked any way. only uncle james who lives with us and myself will eat it.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Nothing to harvest here yet. My favorite way to eat squash: slice about 1/2 inch thick, marinade with Italian dressing and throw on the grill just long enough to warm. I won't eat it if it's squishy. LOL

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

have strawberries! Not expecting anything else for quite some time!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Onions...and patty pan squash, peas have come and gone, same w/the sugar snaps. Picked a few beets last nite but haven't cooked 'em yet! Also getting sprigs of basil!

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

Tomatoes here. I only have a couple of plants, so not many. But some is better than none . . .

Manteca, CA(Zone 9a)

My tomatoes are just starting to come in. Mostly cherry so far. I have picked a few Sungold, Sweet Gold and Chelo. There will be some Glacier and Juliet ripe in the next couple of days.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Boy, I envy you people with enough space to grow veggies and fruit! Sounds delish, and I'm anxiously awaiting my first tomato flowers to make fruit.

I Do have basil, though... just waiting for tomatoes!

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

My two pitiful plants are in pots on my patio. It's a sad situation . . . but hey, flowers come first! I've got my priorities straight . . . I generally don't do edibles, except for a tomato plant or two each year.

Anyway, the bulk of our 'homegrown' produce generally comes from an Uncle who grows to sell. He lost his entire crop of tomatoes to some virus this spring! =( He replanted, and will have tomatoes later (we hope!) In the meantime, my two little plants are struggling to keep us supplied.

We got cucumbers from him last weekend. =)

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

We only have a third of an acre, and out veggie garden is just 4 8'X16' raised beds. In that we grow yellow squash, tomatoes (6 kinds), sugar snaps, strawberries, cucumbers, sweet peppers, and zucchini. The secret is to grow up. We train everything except the strawberries on trellises, so you can really stack them up against each other.

Bethelridge, KY(Zone 6a)

Onions, brocolli, cabbage and beet greens here. Zukes, cukes and summer squash in about a week. Turnips are about ready, going to check for new 'taters tomorrow.

Bethelridge, KY(Zone 6a)

jcf, how do you can your summer squash? I tried it one year and it came out mushy and tasteless. Any tips I should know about?

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

i do not can it i freeze it. for stewed squash i cook it as regular and when cool i bag and freeze it. for fried squash i cut into cubes and rinse leaving a little mosit and then i flour it and bag it. when ready to deep fry i thaw it out, it will be sticky. i add more flour until it is dry to the touch and deep fry. it comes out just like fresh picked.

Bethelridge, KY(Zone 6a)

Thanks! I'll give it a try.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

jcf...which kinds of summer squash do you freeze? I've got Zucs I especially want to preserve. I use those in soups and breads...love to hear more.

As for our harvesting...lettuce, radishes, cucumbers, Juliet tomato (ONE! :-D) Green beans will be ready in about a week for canning, strawberries are there but not ready yet. Looks like lots of work for me this summer. ;-)

~julie~ (Who *can't* wait for fried green tomatoes! :-D)

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I'm in zone 5 so later that those of you in warmer areas. Have had the best lettuce this year ever. Now that weather is getting hot, have reached 102, today 91, the lettuce will soon be finished. Have beets, have been eating Sungold tomatoes, can see others sizing up, but no color yet. Have had lots of Blackcaps, my red raspberries have not done well this year or last , guess I need to replant them. Peas finished. My Rainier and Lapins cherries are ready to pick. Love cherries right off the tree. Did not plant any patty pan squash this year but one volunteered in one of my compost piles and tomorrow I will pick the first squash off it. Corn is tasseling. Cucumbers in bloom. Donna
