This past spring I've done quite a bit of trading via the internet and have gotten some great plants that I just can't find around here. A couple of times I've come home from the PO and paid $45 to ship out several trades. My husband Jim was somewhat leary of the postage until he saw just what I got in return. Well, yesterday he was at HD getting a trash can and the woman in front of him bought 5 or 6 plants (nothing great and all fit into a plant tray). She paid $48 for her plants. Jim just looked at those plants and thought to himself, "Doesn't she know about Dave's Garden?"
Had to Laugh
LOLOL That is so funny, I think the same thing when I see that. LOL. I was at the P.O. mailing some stuff out this morning and an elderly gentleman was very interested in the fact that I was writing "live plants" on the boxes and started asking all kinds of questions wich in turn got one of the Postal workers asking all sorts of questions. LOL It was a great morning to be at the post office, especialy as Im talking with these two men I can see most of the others in line taking a big interest in what Im saying. It was so cool.
We all need to print up little davesgarden.com cards to hand folks. There's no beating trading with folks! :D
I had a similar reaction from my DH when I started - but I started with a bare backyard and now its starting to really take shape. He went with me to the local nursery to get a couple of things we couldn't get by trading, and almost choked! He said, these two plants cost as much as all the postage for the rest of the back yard!!!
My local farm market is selling about 4" pots of Cleome for .............$7!!!!!
I did have to buy a 'Blackie' sweet potato for almost $4, and left thinking about the trades I have done and what has come in the mail for that same amount in postage! I think the usual cash-value of a trade runs about $70-$140 (using Wayside for comparison!).
pins2006, sorry to highjack your thread but I posted something for you on the mail call forum. http://davesgarden.com/t/436356/ thanks.
