Well Water Treatment

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Way down here in S. Florida, we drink city water. However, we have shallow wells that we draw from for sprinkling our yards. One of our neighbors has a water treatment service that he pays for monthly. The company comes by, puts in a tank that filters the well water and treats it for feeding the grass? The man down the street says he pays for this service, doesn't know what it is they treat the water with, but he says his lawn is healthier because of it.

Anyone know what this might be? (Keep in mind, this is not water for drinking, only for yard irrigation)

Thanks in advance,

Molly, I'd have the water tested before doing anything else.

I won't drink the well water here because it smells of sulphur. But the county testing shows no harmful bacteria but 4X the allowable amount of Fluoride, and 4X the allowable amount of iron. Neither seem to affect the plants when I water.

I think the bacterial and the chemical tests cost me around $40.

I have a friend using well water, I think it has just enough lime in it to sweeten soil, her house plants showed a remarkable growth spurt after using that well water. Lime is a good thing to add to some plants. Hoyakins

Thanks Darius and Norma. Of course, like I said, this water is not being used to drink. The fella down the street is having his water treated for his lawn. My DH asked him (Dave)what it was being treated with, he said I dunno, the truck comes round once in a while and adds somthing to the tank.

I know everything in my yarden loves well water much more than hose water (chlorine in the hose water) but I just never heard of having a small water treatment tank in your yard just to water your lawn with.

Oh well. "Fire in the hole Dave" is the other gardener on our street, but he is much too organized. LOL Me, I'm the disorganized gardener.

:^)))
