Torrea cellularia?

This grew within only a few days behind our local Target Store.

Sooo, neat, Ulrich. I love the name. Only you could come up with this one. :o)

Got to hand it to Verizon. I thought I had seen everything, but this one amazes me.

Grand solution. Now if the tree continues to thrive. There is a tree in there, right?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

Voicestream put up a relay near the entry to my neighborhood smack dab in a beautiful empty field. No one knew that they were going to do so until it was already being constructed. It is a real eyesore and we petitioned our neighborhood association to block its completion. Nothing could be done so we have a real eyesore to view. I think I'll ask them to "grow" a tree around it like this.

No tree, Blooms -- I thought I showed you the palm (Roystonea cellularia?) near the BigLots on Grand Ave?!!

Ooooh! I get it.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Is that right off the 22 by Fairhaven Ave?
How about a picture for all to see? By the time I get there this thread will be cold.

i see that kind of 'scene' at the Metro Link train station in Fontana. next time i go, i will surely take photo. in Fontana they use palm tree look alike LOL... sure is eye catcher! wonder what they will do next?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

That's funny, Max! They actually tried disguising it with fake conifer branches? Oh, sheesh.

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Yes, GW, it is amazing. I kinda like it, actually.
I go skating in Orange County every week, and if Crystal doesn't post a picture soon I'll just have to go the extra ten miles to check her Roystonea out.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

There are several of these that are really badly done too. 5 FWY North and the 10 in Boyle heights is pathetic- its got maybe 3 branches. Maybe they are hoping that it will grow!

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Boyle Heights is gang territory. Maybe vandalism accounts for it?

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

I always kind of though that maybe the phone company didn't think they were good enough for too many branches......that or the branches got stolen!

Santa Ana, CA(Zone 9b)

Here you are: R.celluria! I couldn't get closer or take a wider-angle pic as the SA police were questioning someone in front of the store closest to the trees; I felt funny pointing a camera in their direction even standing behind the pillar!

To be honest, I never even noticed the third palm appearing in this group until my husband ("The Observant One") pointed it out.

Gosh, I kinda wish our cellular companies would put up tower disguises, too. Of course, a palm would look a little out of place here, but a nice conifer fits in almost anywhere!

Max,

We have one of these in our local park. My DH was walking our dog one day and just happened to notice it looked a little different than the palm it was next to.

Just read they're called "stealth towers". How funny!
