Mesilla Park, NM

Kell, you grow girl.. I think it is wonderful, hope you get some double pinks..

my water bill has been 170.00 for two months in a row, I definitely have to cut down on somethings.. but what?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

This is a nice field and well suited to raise seedlings. Many of them should bloom in your climate within one year.
I will keep my fingers crossed, that many seedlings will become what you have imagined in your dreams Kell.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Kell, I do think you have your summers workcut out for you. Best wishes for many beautiful blooms and lots of seeds. Donna

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

In my mind's eye Kell? Triple pinks, row on row.
Can't wait until you start showing us pics of them.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks all! I hope I can keep up with all the watering in the 3 places. If I get all whites you will me screaming!

Margie and Lilypon, you are right, my DH is golden! Let see if I can get him to come back with me and plant more! LOL

Larry, are you volunteering to be my young stud with a great butt?

Honibee, I am not really growing these for my pleasure. My pleasure will come when I get to see what their flowers all look like. These are all my seedlings, from my seeds! Most will be tossed or given to the church members. I will only keep the few good ones. And I am praying there will be at least a few I want to keep!

Flicker, it may end up being my burial plot if I do not change my obsessive ways soon! My poor DH wants to know why he has to share my hobby with me. LOL

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I'm with Brugnanny, you are out of your mind, this is the upper limits of this addiction!

thomasville, GA(Zone 8b)

You are so aerodite in your answers. Think I can keep up??

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Your from Georgia,if not, stay on the porch,LOL!Just kidding!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell, I just noticed that you planted in containers in your field...did you make the extra holes in the containers first?

How nice you have your church members to give your extras to. Maybe even a local nursery would like your extras.

How often do you think you will need to water ? And how about winter protection? .....just wondering about some of the details! Not that I would ever think of doing anything like this!! ; )))

Edited to say....yoohooo...I am close enough to you to actually go and visit your field of dreams! Is it closer or further from SJ ? I would love directions, when you have a minute to write!! : ))))) Don't worry gang...I will take photos and post them too!!

Am I ever glad I came back today to see your second picture =)
I was thinking you used the "other " type of ground plots found on Church grounds.
Zombie Brugs ....... roflol

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

How will you ever keep them all fed and watered? I'm spending about 2 hrs every afternoon just in my small yard.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Raelil, sure you can! I will talk slower! LOL

Margie, it makes it easier to pull them up in fall if I decide to. It is Monika's way to grow them. Though I donot think she plants them high like I did. I did that becuase the dirt was too hard to dig. LOL. Do you have Monika's book? It really is a complete guide to growing brugs. If you read it, you will know as much as I do! Maybe more! LOL

Yes, you put holes around the sides. I picked this kind of pot because it was easy to put the holes in. Then in the fall you take your shovel and cut any roots protudiing from the holes and slip the holey pot into another pot or into a plastic bag. Then the cold weather sufferers bring them to their basement and let them go dormant. Here, I would repot it up to a bigger pot and grow it in my yard after trimming the canopy by an equal amount.

I do not even know where this is myself. I followed my friend there which is how I learned about it. When my husband came the other day, he had to follow me! I will check out the address. Nothing to exciting to see right now!

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

Do post the crosse Kell so will we will know waht to look forward to see pictures of if you have a chance to post pictures this summer LOL!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Kell...thank you for your answers to my questions. Yes, I do have Monikas book and am reading it. I just got to the part about the pot within a pot, that is why I asked about it holes! There is a great deal of information about the care of brugs, which I really like. Or should I say, which I really need!

Do you expect blooms this year? I imagine you do. When were your seedlings started ? Sometime this winter? It is so exciting! Will you go out daily to see and care for your new plants? Just curious...Once they start opening, I would think that you would want to see them often!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Amanda, I will later. There are so many and so varied. I have to look them up.

Margie, if most do not bloom this year I will cry. My plan is to fertilize, fertilize fertilize. Tracey is my mentor in the blooming department. Though my brugs I planted last year are not blooming till now. So a brug garden could take 3 years before you can replant it with new brugs. First year to grow, second to bloom and 3rd to double check the quality of the blooms and the final color of them. Geez, when I put it that way I am overwhelmed. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Okay, showing my stupidity here. What the heck does aerodite mean, raelil? It isn't in my online dictionary.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Hmmm, My search suggests a different spelling ........

I see I should have checked that no one else found the answer before I posted! :S

Hey Chele, you are too busy growing your own baby blondies for mine! How is it going girl? I harldy get off this forum but I really need to go look for some current pics of your latest creation. Peggy once in awhile shares pics with those of us that are so brug forum bound.

Whitewater, WI

I love it, Kell You're my kinda girl...

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Kell I notice you do not have a zone posted. Can you grow them all year?

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I totally understand your project, Kell, even if you don't, but I don't think for one minute that that's the case. I'd do the same thing if I lived where you do, but of course I don't know where that is, except the Land of Brugs, where else would the Queen of Pinks live??? I've always wanted to be a queen and, for the time being, I'd like to be called the Queen of Mulch, I'm now up to almost 400 bags, which I unloaded and spread myself...I'm seriously considering buying a shredder and making it from the get go, I have the cyress trees...

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Oh My Kell!!!! I've been out of town for a few days and I just can't believe this! I think you have gone off the deep end! *LOL* Not really, I know you're doing what you love!!! I hope you get so much gratification out of doing this. And you're very lucky, at least you have a DH that loves you enough to be involved with everything! He really is golden!!! Wishing you all the luck in the world! I can't wait to see pics!!!

CHARITON, IA(Zone 5a)

Hi Kell - just couldn't resist asking if you are going to try the red plastic tomato mulch under those brugs. It would really cut down on alot of driving and watering time to not have to water them everyday. Geesh with the price of gas too. Maybe you could stretch it across the left half of the pot first and then use another length of red plastic to stretch across the right half of the pot leaving only the stem of the plant poking out of the top of the pot. Use maybe the long staples to anchor it to the ground between the pots running in a long row. Black plastic might be better to use as it comes in wider widths and would cover more of the ground between the plants. Maybe you are a preen user too - I hadn't thought of that, but either way the plastic would sure help conserve water and too if you use just a drop of liquid detergent in your water, it makes the water wetter and it soaks right in and does not run off! Just a thought when I saw all that bare ground - can't wait to see pictures of your blooms!

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Such passion!!!!!.....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Iowagirl, I was thinking of trying it or black plastic. Not for what is already in the ground but for the ones to be planted.
I was going to dig in the empty pots, half fill them up with dirt and then lay the plastic on top. Secure the perimeter with brick. I would then slice an X in the plastic over the center of each pot. Then put in my gallon size brug thru the sliced X and fill the rest of the pot up with dirt.

What do you think??

I was also thinking of putting down a bed of alfalfa hay all around the brug pots. I was hoping it not only would mulch the weeds down, conserve water but also breakdown and enrich the soil and break up the clay.

Anyone have experience with alfalfa hay?

I wonder if I should put the alfalfa hay down under the plastic? Would it break down and enrich the soil?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

It might turn fungisy.......
I would do 1/2 with hay, half with the plastic,or even lay down a roll of black fabric mulch, that lets air and water in.....throw mulch or hay on top of it,at least then you know the fertilizer will get in the ground
and it will look impressive.....LOL

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Kell, how much room you got left?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

We are all doing great Kell. Maddie turned two months old yesterday. booo hoooo I need to put up some new pics of her. She is a character already. Speaking of Peggy, we are going to see her on Sunday. :)

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Kell, I need a small favour:
I'll be going on holidays for a week and I need somebody to water my geraniums while I am gone. They will need to be watered daily, if it is hot, then twice a day. Do you think you could possibly manage this for me or do you know anybody who lives in the area who could help? I am extremely busy and don't have the time to meet with the prospective plant caregiver, I've attached a photo to show the location of the plants in my yard. I'd be deeply grateful and would be willing to pay the individual. Thanks for all your help! Bye for now!

Holy Cow! How do you water something like that??

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

And we thought we were nuts with brugs.
