My poor, poor DH and I just got home from digging holes! We were gone for 4 1/2 hours. I have rented 3 plots from a church to grow my bruglings.
I have gone insane. Totally insane!
We will never see you again Kell, you will be so busy with so much room. I want to know how you are going to take your famous night pictures of those at the church?
After all that time, we only got 23 brugs planted! Tomorrow I will not be able to walk. The soil in the first 2 rows was so full of clay, I had a foot of soil clinging to the soles of my shoes. After 16 holes my husband threateneed to leave! Thank God, in row 3 the soil was much better and easier to dig. I had to promise my DH all sort sof things to get him to stay and help me. These brugs better be incredible.
LOL! Kell, this is the same husband who you worried about watering your plants when you were away last summer?
He gets extra Kudos for digging holes for brugs.
You are now a farmer! LOL!! A San Francisco Farmer
And while we digged those holes Miss Lizzy, I prayed he would not remember I have to go East several times this summer to see my mother. LOL! Poor, poor TOM!
If I ever get mad at him again, please remind me that he is pure gold!!
Holy Smokes! Kell, you'll be growing a brug forest!
I think you need to hire a gardener to help you Kell, a nice young man to help with the watering and digging and carrying.........
One with a cute butt! LOL
OMG Kell! Bless your hearts! I just can not even imagine driving by there, and seeing all those beautiful blooms. Ive only seen 2 here in Colorado. OMG all the seed pods you will get! Really! How are you gonna do it??
yep, yep, yep, you are ate up with it girlie!! Poor Tom... I don't even want to know what promises you made to make him continue on digging all these holes for you!
I'm at work now Kell and after laughing out loud at your initial post and incurring disapproving looks from my co-workers, all I can type is, "You go girl!" Oh and also, "You go Tom you magnificent specimen of manhood!" :-)
LOL yep Kell you are there! Just think though of all the pretties you will have to show us later!
Kell... you are insane. Thank your lucky stars Tom loves you!
LOL Kell, you're into the Brug business, lock, stock and barrell now. Hope you have good a good supply of water there. Best of luck growing out your babies.
OMG! Are you crazy, girl??? Well, you're obviously having fun being a little over the edge so go for it. Only kidding. Wish I had the energy to grow 380 baby brugs!!! I hope you can get out of bed today :) Gretchen
Kell, I don't know how you do it. I have more than I can handle here, but three places??? Holy cow, you will meet yourself coming and going.
Should be fantastic when they bloom. Think we are all a little bit "nutty" here, the way we are with these brug plants!
BUT! When those suckers bloom, it is well worth all the work.
Will be needing pics later.
How many years has this obsession been going on? This is only my second year. I could barely get them in the gh last year for wintering-over. I'll have to reduce this years crop (currently about 165) significantly before winter. I've been looking for a local chapter of "Brugs anonymous", I've also been looking for extra land :) My water bill last month was $110 and we haven't even hit summer yet.
Linda, I think we are all in trouble this year. I've got to get control before I can't do anything but take care of brugs. Can't wait to see some pictures of your blooms. This is going to be an excellent year with so many new crosses being grown out. With all the spring rains we have had, our cistern is full of rain water, so I won't have to pay a higher water bill for a couple of months.
We had a rainy spring last year, but this year is very dry. I have sandy soil so it's just like "watering the beach".
I'm looking forward to blooms, but as of yesterday's inspection, I don't even see buds. I remind myself of a "mama monkey looking for fleas" the way I lift leaves and look at each plant. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm nuts - gosh, I think I am too!
Oh my Kell!! You have done it now, that is fallen off the deep end. I know you will have many special pics to share in the future. Yes, you need a young stud with a nice butt to help with maintaining your farm!!!!!! When we get together at Roz's next week, don't let your ears burn too much. I'm sure your name will come up more than a few times. Wish you could be there!!!!!!
Kell, you are going to have to quit your job in order to take care of all of these unless you hire the cute butt guy.
I haven't seen Kell post this morning. I bet she is so sore from planting she can't move! Poor Kell, If she sees brochures for rehab facilities lying on the coffee table, she'd better run fast!
How about crawl? LOL
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!
The good part is kell will get them all to bloom....her growing season is sooooo long......
now ,I kinda wonder if sushi nite will sufer....
I just hope we don't have to suffer because she doesn't have the time to come talk to us. This garden being 45 minutes from her house is going to require a lot of her time. Kell, I hope you are going to invest in automatic watering. LOL!
is she growing these babies to sell?? man and i worry over the five i have already. oh my. i am in trouble if i get more.
dh thinks i am mad as it is. my new home is like 20 minutes away and every other night i go out to water as its so hot and dry here.
they are already turning yellow on me. they are in full sun.
i still baby them. tonight is my night to go water them. hehe wont be so bad when i get moved to there.
i would be in heaven if i had as many as you Kell. take a warm bath to help ease the ache.
LOL Susie. I am up and in movement. Wonders never cease. It is such a glorious day!
Linda, you are just a few months behind me so beware! You will be nuts like me also! And it sounds like you are well on your way!
Oh and the water pressure is terrible there. It will take forever to water. I think people must put on a sprinkler and leave.
This church has lots of people planting there. Mostly vegetable gardens though I understand there are 3 flower plots and mine must make 6.
I almost did not get the plots. At first the guy who runs the program told me NO! I emailed the guy pictures of brugs and the ABADS website and told him how poisonous they were. He read all about the them on that site. I was shocked about how much he read. I thought he would just look at the pictures. He really poured over it all. He found the disease section and he thought the brugs were disease prone and would get the other gardeners' veggies all sick. So he told me NO!
Later I sent him an email, I told him it was more likely to happen the other way around. I thought he may have a problem about them being poisonous but he had no concerns about that. But them again so many plants that are all over are poisonous. He told me no one will bother them. They have had no trouble. Of course they are growing all over here in people's yards.
Thanks Larry. I just know you all are going to have the best time! My kid graduates June 13th so I am pretty busy here.
Kell, when I read "plot" I naturally thought "cemetery". I also thought," New Concept-RENTED cemetery plots". And of course-"What would the neighbors think?"
Wow Kell I can't believe you got you DH to help you dig all those holes much less rent the property to grow them. That's true dedication.
Wow -- that's pretty cool when an empty field gets picture of the day... Congrats on that one, Kell! :)
lol, Flicker, I thought the same thing. Of course, I work at a cemetery so that would come to me more automatically. kell, are you raising these to sell? Surely, you can't enjoy that many when they're not even at your house.....
Kell's Field of Dreams......I hope some of those seedlings will be worth all the work you guys are going to.
Kell you should try some of those water crystals in planting? I did this in my garden down the street last summer. I didn't have to water very much at all. I use them in all my containers and anything I plant in the front garden. It's been a real time saver for me.
Kell's Field of Dreams....I really like that brugie....it would make a nice sign on the field and for albums, etc.
Kell, you had better never complain about your DH ever, ever again....what dedication to you! Wow, I am impressed. He must really be a dear at heart!!
Best wishes on your endeavor...no project is too big, if it is your dream! Wonderful and please post lots of photos as it is progressing...
Exactly right Brugie, my field of dreams! LOL! No, I am not going to sell them but I should! I will only keep the few special ones! I am just doing it to grow out seeds. I am hooked on growing out seeds.
If that isn't love I don't know what is....esp. from a man who hates Brugs!
Kell,
Why do you grow so many? Do you grow them for your own pleasure? It seems like you wouldn't get time to enjoy them.

Yes, I think you have gone totally insane.....remember you said it first...LOL I admire you for your determination. It would be time-consuming enough if they were all in your yard but to have to drive that distance back and forth is like another job. I wish you success and if anyone deserves beautiful new seedlings, it is you. You are putting your heart and soul into this and much work.........no doubt, this is a labor of love.
