While perhaps not the most apparent floral tributes, nevertheless some herbs and vegetables can express your feelings as well as a bunch of flowers-and in a less obvious fashions. So if you wish to be subtle, try some of these....
And ancient way to use the lovely blue flowers of borage is to float them in a glass of wine. Borage represents blunt speaking, and indicates that everything you are about to say should be taken seriously- so make sure you mean it! Rue symbolizes disdian, rosemary remembrance: the latter may be given in memory of good times you have spent together. Sweet basil indicates "good wishes," while chervile symbolizes sincerity: in combination with sorrel ("fondness") or-even better-wood sorrel ("joy"), such a posy luck and happiness.
Coriander indicates that you have a secret to tell, or that there are hidden qualities under a flippant exterior. Cress represents a promise of stability, while angelica tells the other that they inspire you. Bay leaves promise that you will be faithful to the end, while fennel tell you beloved you think them worthy of everyone's praises. Sage symbolizes great esteem, while peppermint express the true warmth of your feeling.
Strawberry flowers express the expectation of good times ahead-raspberries symbolize remorse and may be given as an apology. Be wary of blackberries, though-they symbolize envy. Peaches are an ideal gift to recieve-they mean that giver thinks your beauty, charm and good qualities are unequalled. Cherries represent warm affection.
Sweet chestnut expresses a wish for your lover's life to be filled with luxuries, and walnuts indicate a respect for their intellect. Lemons mean,
'you bring vitality to my life": apples symbolize temptations: and the pineapples tells your beloved that you think they are perfect. Turnips respresent a charitable nature, while turffles indicate a surprise in the offing: mushrooms, however, symbolize suspicion, so employ them with care. The potato symbolize benevolence and mangnanimity. Even the humble cabbage has a meaning-"we will profit our partnership!"
