ANYONE HERE KNOW ABOUT CARS?

That is very interesting, Eileen, as mine is a 1990, and has a little over 85,000 miles on it (not bad for that age car). I'll have DH take a look at it, now that it's back at our place.

A year later and guess what? Yes - I've been starting up this car 45 to 50 minutes before I have to leave, to go anywhere. We just brought it to a new mechanic and he found out what it was right away - at least we are hoping. It was the ignition coil. He changed that, the ignition wires and the distributor cap. It ran good all the way home. Tomorrow will be the tester - I'll start it up and drive around the neighborhood and see if it stalls. Fingers crossed!

Yeah! Today was cold, semi-rainy (when my car acts up the most) and it ran like a top without having to warm it up prior. I drove around in crazy-8's in the neighborhood, without hitting arterials for the first 20 minutes - the amount of time it usually takes for it to start acting up. It was ok - so I took it on some arterials and it still held on. I need to make that mechanic a thank you card. I am so happy someone finally figured it out! He said he's in an online mechanic group that has over 8,000 subscribers. They share information. I typed out on a word doc exactly what was going on, when it was the worst, everything I could think of. He said he typed those details into it and that my car got an instant hit on something that appears to be very common with my type of car. AMEN for internet clubs, including Dave's Garden! After he got that hit, all he had to do was open up the hood and check that particular spot. BINGO. Ok - gotta go make a TY card!

We live in an amazing age! Glad your car is feeling better.

It looks like to me that Dravencat had it nailed. On 5/26/04 at 4:09 pm she said "My first thought is possibelignition coil-usualy have to let it sit and cool down before it restarts-" WHAT A WOMEN.

Yes - but for me it says 2:09 (2 hour difference in time zones). When I mentioned these possibilities given, the other mechanics just kind of laughed. (getting mechanical advice from a garden club, ha ha).

I am just so thankful I can jump in my car and go, whenever I want now, without waiting 45 to 50 minutes - gas is too expensive these days for that, and it really takes a toll on your time as well. What if there had been an emergency?

I know what you are talking about Karrie my husband has his own auto repair shop. I know he might of laughed to himself but he wouldn't of ruled it out without checking it first. If the gas doesn't go down soon I may be looking for a horse and a buggy for transportation.

Yes there is a 2 hours time change from your zone to mine.

I am real glad your car is up and running. They are a pain in the back side when they aren't.

My husband goes in on the internet and checks out a web site that is set up for mechanics to ask others if they have ever ran across problems like they have and if they have they do find the cures. He has fixed a few vehicles with there help before and he has helped out others before. Like Dave's Garden.
