My son is a welder and works in refineries all over the US. He says they are all running full capacity to keep up with the need and this will make the gas go down. They are all putting off work that needs to be done until they just have to shut down. Also they have increased output overseas.
Curious about gas prices around the country
Phillips 66 is still$2.13 and the Mobil across the street from them is $2.17. Guess they are going to milk it as long as they can! Three miles away its running $2.03 At Marathon and Citco both.
absolutely nutzy prices if they have so much gas.
Well, I went to Louisville today and gas was.......$1.69.9 a gallon.....
Gasoline has dropped to $1.85/gallon here. Milk has jumped up to $4.05/gallon and some grocery stores are charging $4.59/gallon. On the other hand, t-bone and porterhouse steaks are now a $1/lb cheaper.
Go figure! We went and looked at two Jersey cows today for own milk!!!
Ya know - I have found that gas stations and convenience stores sell Milk much cheaper than the grocery stores (i.e. a dollar less per gallon).
Just came in from Beaumont and paid 173.9 for gas there. When I came back through Silsbee it had dropped at one little store from 174.9 to 171.9 (that was in a matter of 3 hours). But on the other end of town it had gone up from 174.9 to 179.9 Now that doesn't make sense that both would have a price change but one lower and one higher. Jenny
Found gas here down again from $1.79.9 gal. (reg) Now $1.74.9 gal. (reg)...yeepeee!!!!!
Milk still $3.25 gal
Still AT $4.70 (equivalent) here :(
sbarr, you make me feel terrible complaining about our prices when yours are more than double ours. I guess we should be thankful for our prices! Jenny
It's a $1.66/gal here, BUT that is in large part due to the new Wal-Mart opening here and causing a bit of a gas war. It is upwards of $1.93 just down the street from the refineries in Corpus Christi.
My husband use to work at Citgo Refining (which use ONLY Argentinean crude) in Corpus Christi, before someone in the hierarchy decided to fatten their bonus check by not spending the money to fix a problem that eventually killed one person and permanently disabled my husband. (The widow won millions by proving gross negligence; I had to find a job.)
He noted on more than one occasion that the prices at stores selling Citgo gas were consistently 50+ cents per gallon higher than what the refinery was charging their commercial volume buyers.
He also noted that a locally owned chain of gas stations here routinely bought fuel at the terminal in Corpus and their prices were at least 75 cents higher at the pump and they had their own trucks, drivers, etc.
Another side note to this - until recently I was an owner/operator of a tractor & trailer leased to a company that hauled primarily off-shore and land-based oilfield equipment. Of the people we hauled for Chevron was, without a doubt, the stingiest of payers. It eventually got to the point that I would offer to pay to my terminal, out of my own pocket, the 10% of any Chevron load they wanted me to haul IF I didn't have to haul it. In the long- and short-run I would lose less money handling a Chevron load that way.
And finally, we own rights in 2 separate oil fields (DH inheritance). We have paid more in taxes on those mineral rights than we have received from all the wells drilled on them. And our place sits in between two of the largest US reserves, at this point in time - one just to the east in the Gulf and the other just to the west around Eagle Pass. (One son installs safety systems on completed wells around the US, the other son installs and maintains computers on drilling rigs across the lower half of Texas so I have an inside track on this sort of info.)
Invariably the oil company will find some way to charge back enough stuff on the well so that our portion of the royalty checks are meager by comparison.
I only wish I had been paid for the mineral rights and to haul their equipment relative to what I pay for the end result at the pump.
Stepping down from soapbox
Edited for price drop.

Jenny - I can empathize with you. I just moved here a few months ago. I was complaining when I was visiting NY last month to pick up my belongings to finish my move and had to fill up my Honda Accord. Ouch! $1.80 when I left in April and $2.15 when I was back in May/June.
It's a different environment here in Ireland, no quite the same comparison. I think if I drove 200 miles, I'd be on the other side of the country. We don't have the same distances to travel and a lot of people go by bus here in the city. Back when I was in upstate NY, I had some co-workers who drove 120 miles each day round-trip. It can be much worse in CA and places where people have to drive a lot. In New Mexico, my sister has to drive almost a hundred miles round trip to go to a real grocery store.
The times that I have rented a car here, even with side trips to the countryside, I used less than a tank a week.
Fortunately, I'm 2 miles from work and can either walk or take the bus and on a rainy take take a quick cab ride home.
sbarr that makes me feel better. Sounds like a very nice area to live and very old fashioned (in a nice vein) Is it humid there? Do you have a large yard? Jenny
$2.08 at Tesoro, and $2.09 at the 7-11 (that I won't buy gas from). Seems to be coming down a LITTLE (from $2.13).
I.879 in Woodville today. Jenny
I just paid $1.68.9 at BP in Muldraugh.
Paid $2.05 at the Phillips 66. Mt Prospect, ill. Mobil across street$2.07.
Paid 1.72.9 at Rock Rapids, IA today.
Hubby noticed when he went up North, not too far from here, in a more depressed area, that the gas was way cheaper.
I think they are charging whatever they feel they can get us to pay for, thus my reasons for RIDE YOUR BIKE!
Four refineries her two within 10 miles two within 40 miles gas today at costco $200.9 gas at safeway about the same gas every where else 20 to 25 cents higher. The most expensive service station is 150 yards from the refinery must have tremendous hauling expense.
Yes riding my bike to work would sure cut my fuel cost but I am sure it would raise my medical expense. 50 miles to work in the car 1 hour. Hospital 7 miles down the road if luck I fend off heart attack untill I get there to avoid ambulance cost average little attack cost $70,000. I think I better just keep going to costco lol. Ernie
LOL Ernie! You're such a cutie! And I know you COULD handle the bike ride, you STUD!
Ernie, you need to get a bicycle built for two; you can pedal 10 miles, then your partner can pedal 10 miles, etc...:) That way you both get to take in the scenery....Kathy
Kathy awsome idea lets expand on it a bit how about a bike for three with no chain on the rear wheel. from that position I can call cadience . Ernie
Asheville (NC) is a 100 mile trip from here, and I saw gas prices on my trip today from $165.9 up to $189.9. I didn't get the $165.9 stufff because the station was jammed... but did get $1.73.9 gas nearby.
Yes, but if we get a ten seater, we won't be able to hear your cadience....:) a peaceful ride? LOL
And speaking of ten seaters....I saw a stretch Hummer the other day, has anyone seen one of them? I'd hate to be hit with that. It had quite a few doors, perhaps even had a swimming pool in it....
And it was in Dispatcher's neck of the woods, Seymour, IN. I wished I'd had Lou's number, I waited at BK for my granddaughter for over 2 hours.
:) Kathy

yes, we saw a stretch hummer too! Could hardly believe our eyes!! It was somewhere between Kansas City, MO and Omaha, NE.
Gas today was 197.9 first time under two bucks in weeks. I did a terriblely cheap thing tonight I stoped at one of those really expensive gas stations 2.32 and got one gallon then went to Costo for 17.5 more hey do the math.
Kathy you may be on to something here with this 10 person bike. For one that long to function you will need to spring load the center wheels or hinge the frame in a couple places. Is your vision ten in a row or two five person side by side rows? Please dont pull any marx brothers stuff and put any remote disconnects to leave the rear seat when you pedal away. Ernie
Found Gas today down again. $1.67.9 gal (reg)
Milk still $3.25 gal
Hey Dixie,
Our gas has been holding steady for a week now at $1.679. If we cross the river into Indiana, it is 10 - 12 cents more a gallon. I know that in past year's Kentucky has decreased the amount of tax they charge on gas, especially during the summer months as a way to "lure" tourists here and allow KYs to travel throughout the state a bit easier. Kathy :)
$1.99.9 is the best I can find in this area. It is a little better in New Mexico, but not economical to drive there for it....farizona
Gas was $1.989 in eastern Oregon tonight and $1.959 in western Idaho tonight. That is the lowest grade and the top grade was $2.19 in Oregon and $2.029 in S west Idaho.
In case you are interested, my sister lives in Vienna, Austria, she pays $5.00 a gallon!! How would you like that and perhaps someday we will?A few years ago ours was around $1.00, there it was $2.50.
Wow...That's interesting! To put things in perspective, I looked up a few items and what their cost is in Austria Vienna:
Frozen pizza: EUR 2.50 = $3.10 USD
Main meal at an inexpensive pub: EUR 5-7.00 = $6.18-8.65 USD

$192.9 Regular 87 octane
I paid 1.71.9 for a gallon of gas tonight when I filled the tank. I bought a gallon of milk for $2.36 tonight at Sam's Club. Milk is around $3.00 a gallon, or more, everywhere else.
Hey Tree, I bought milk at Sams' Club today also and paid the same price for 2%. Our gas has risen again to $1.759.... I was gloating too much I guess :(
1.829 Wednesday morning for regular
1.999 Thursday morning for regular
Around Detroit
I think it was $2.17 at the place I go past on the way to work. It would be more expensive closer to the freeway.
People out here insist on driving those gas-hog, air-polluting SUVs, so they are just getting what they deserve.
Gas is now down to about $2.00 a gallon.
At the marina, this last weekend (at the boat launch) the gas dropped from $2.45 to $2.19 in just ONE day. Of course, it's always more expensive at marinas - they figure you have to fill up that boat or get stranded out in the middle of the lake!
Edited to add:
Prices of dairy products seem to keep going up. Chicken has been coming back down in prices.
