Curious about gas prices around the country

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

As Misty said above, I saw the price go up three times in one day, high of $2.27, probably rising as I type this...

And I really don't care that it is and has been 4 times this much in Europe, I cannot believe these increases are warranted. Shouldn't the price at least remain the same on the fuel that the station has already on hand in their own tanks?

Commerce, GA(Zone 8a)

We are paying from $2.05 for unleaded & on up for premium.
Wal-Mart here was $2.09.9. Bicycles are looking better & better!Just think how much more we would have to spend for "gardening" if we didn't have to have gas!LOL

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

DFW area is running $1.93 on up...(sigh)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I've noticed it seems to be cheaper in the South than the North, even though we supposebly get ours from Canada......

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

2.19 here last nite-had been 204 then went down for a day to 1.99 and then zzzoooom zzzzzzooom zooom 2.19~

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

Last week we paid $1.84 per gallon, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is $1.90+ tomorrow. In the tourist areas like Williamsburg and Virginia Beach it has already reached the $2 mark. My gasoline prices include about .36 per gallon for state and federal taxes.

I think I posted this a long, long time ago but I have a dear friend who's DH owns a gas station in the Colonial Williamsburg area. (The gas prices, excluding taxes, are different according to the delivery zone.) He's not a happy camper either because he is charged .02 per gallon more than a gas station 3 blocks away that receives gasoline from the same tanker on it's route.

There was a special on PBS a few weeks ago concerning rising gas prices. It brought up some points that haven't been covered on this thread and I found it interesting. I just don't know how long you are able to read online after a show has been aired, and if what is shown here appears at the same time in other areas.

MistyMeadows, I had to smile when I read your post about how gas prices can change so quickly. I went down the road to do a quick errand and five minutes later the gas price had increased on me too.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

A few weeks ago, a local station had it for $1.59/gallon and there were lines of people waiting. Now it's over $2/gallon for the cheapest grade.

Here is an interesting site to monitor: http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgas_index.asp

You can be a spotter as well, and update the database with your local prices.

Just checked and saw that Flying J, generally the cheapest place around our area, was charging 1.91, 2.00 & 2.08 for the three grades, and 1.65 for deisel. That was updated within the last 48 hours.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

I just paid $2.11.9 for mid grade in Tampa. Premium was $2.19.9 and on the other end $2.02.9.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Ever notice when the announcement that oil prices are rising, they rise at the pumps immediately, but when the oil prices are dropped, it takes 45 days to show a drop at the pumps.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

LOL Earthling!

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Gas is l.98 a gal here, diesel is l.65 I drive a 4 wheel drive big diesel truck, I put 400.00 a month in it for fuel, to take kids back and forth to school, tea kwon do, chorus, ect. We were seriously considering a gas economical car for my daughter to drive when she's l6 l/2 which is 6 months away, But I think i'd be better off, driving her back and forth with my big diesel than buy a small car right now, especially if the prices are planning on going up further. I complain about having to pay the prices, but should be lucky i'm not buying gas.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

They are selling E-85 ethanol for 85¢ a gallon around here this weekend. It is only a promotion to make people aware that they can use it. We have lots of ethanol plants here in Minnesota.

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

The Shamrock station out here in the country has regular unleaded for $183.9; the cheapest we have seen around here.

Canadaigua, NY(Zone 6b)

My boyfriend Andy has a conversion van for the band that he's in, Gas is 2.17 here. He had a show the other night in Rochester, Went to fill up the tank and put 50 bucks in, figured it had to be filled by then... Just under 3/4 of a tank. Mere

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

It was *down* to $1.87.9 today at Sam's (down $0.02 from earlier in the week - the first reduction I've seen in a while.)

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

I paid $2.29.9 for diesel today at Hood River, Oregon. Just across the bridge in Washington it was 7 or 8 cents higher. The attendant told me the price had dropped a penny since yesterday when I asked him how long a drop in the price of crude took to get to the pumps. My sister told me last week that she doubled the value of her van by filling the tank.

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

$1.899 yesterday at Weigel's in Knoxville, TN.

Sioux City, IA(Zone 4b)

It has stayed at 1.99 for about a week here...I've never in my life seen 2.00, we'll see if it hits that this memorial weekend.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

$2.19 for regular right now around here.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Left NC this past Friday with our gas prices at an average of around $2.00 gallon. Got to Knoxville for the TNRU just 130 miles away and saw gas there for $184.9. Went across the mountains to Boone NC for a NCRU on Sunday, 2 days later, and found gas prices from $2.00 (when I didn't need gas) to $2.08 by the time I really needed to get gas.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Filled up tonight, gas was $1.92.9 in town.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Yesterday, it was $2.35 at the cheap "Thrifty" gastation. The good stuff was $2.57.
This is getting rediculous!!!

Donna

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Get out our bicycles and let's exercise! :)

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

I actually saw $1.89.9 tonight just outside of Louisville in West Point, KY and Muldraugh, KY. BP stations on Dixie Hwy! In case y'all are passing through Ft. Knox....ha, ha...

Looks like it's hitting the terrible 2's stage.
A new gas sign price in Fort Worth; $2.33.9 for No lead,
$2.56.9 for midgrade, and $2.63.9 for super unleaded.
I'm sure with the Memorial Day weekend coming up, the price of gas will be higher yet.
The price of gas, just like everything else goes up. Look at the price of milk per gal; almost up to $4.00 a gal. in some places, the price of cigarettes; up to $37.00 a carton, the price for a case of soda's, the price for a case of bottled water, the price for a gal. of mouthwash; everything is rising in price, so getting right down to it; gas is still cheaper than a gal. of milk in most places.
Remember when we used to get gas for 50 cents a gal. we thought it was just terrible when it went to 75 cents, then way up to a $1.00 gal.
We just have to live with the prices of everything going up, not just gas.

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

ummmmm - at € 0.95/litre, about $4.25 US per gallon... I'm defininitely reconsidering the car that I buy here in Ireland. Not sure I'm ready for a Smart Car, though. http://www.thesmart.co.uk/index.html

I did see one - very cute, but not a lot of room for passengers - guess you have to pick the family member you like best... :)

When I was in Germany two weeks ago - I think the price was like € 1.21, which translates to about $6.00 per gallon.

But, as mentioned in another thread several months back - not always a fair comparison because US is so geographically dispersed and dependent on cars because of a lack of transportation infrastructure. I read an article in the paper about how long it takes for people to start reacting to prices - I think it's 3 months of peak prices before people consider the type of car. I do have to tell you - no SUV's here in Ireland.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I remember paying $1.40/gallon back in the early 1980s; they gradually declined as low as $0.75/gallon in the late 80s/early 90s.

It requires changes in consumer behavior to decrease the demand for a product and see a reduction in price, assuming supply remains fairly constant. (At least I'm pretty sure that's what they taught us in my economics classes ;o)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

In America, we've come to "supersize" everything...Our drinks, our meals...And our vehicles. And we pay for that luxury! Our van costs us and arm and a leg when we fill its tank, so Howie's been driving the Buick more often than not. THank goodness it's not been really hot, because the Buick doesn't have A/C.

Prattville, AL(Zone 8a)

Gas here is $1.94.9 gal. as of yesterday...Milk has hit an all time high too at $3.35 gal. GRRRR.....

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

DH hasn't driven his Expedition in days! He's been driving his little old pickup - much better gas mileage! DH says it was $2.16 today. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that my car is broke down! :)

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

Might have to start looking into telecommuting. Cept can't get any work done at home!

With the cost of fuel increasing, we can expect to see a spike in groceries, and other goods as well. Whatever is not made or grown locally has to be trucked in, and the truckers have to buy gas as well. Milk here is over $4.00 a gallon unless you go to Sams. And yes, gas is still cheaper than milk, but I don't need 5 gallons of milk a day!

I'm fortunate to live in a place where I can, if I want, God forbid, take a bus, but many of you aren't. The news last night said bus ridership has increased more than 35% in the last few weeks in a time of year when it usually declines with school closing.

The three month thing is a little scary, but not accurate for a lot of people. What will happen to people who are on fixed incomes, or minimum wage?

Other than not driving the gas guzzler, what else is everyone doing to cope?
