I thought it would be fun to see how you got here. What a great place I have grown to call my home away from home and the wonderful folks I have as my friends and my family. It will still be the same place no matter what the name and we will all still love it. This place is the best so when I come back tomorrow or the next day and it's called something new. I will still love it and it will still be my home away from home. Ok off my soap box. How did you get here?
Most of you know my story. I joined DG when it was just a trade tracker and have seen many changes and they have been awesome. DG by whatever name will continue to grow and amaze us.
edited to remove the link since its gone now and the name will stay the same.

What brought you to DG?
I think I was looking for a plant and found a thread here about it.
Looking for plant culture and stumbled on and sent money to join right off. Ok so you are all unlucky I discovered you lol.
Put the word garden in Google!!
I was searching for seeds and came across it. That was back when it was a free site.
I was looking for some info on hibiscus, and found DG.
Doing a search for a plant/flower.
i was on GW and theresa told me her trade list was at daves garden so i came here and looked at her list and made one for myself and ive been here ever since!!!
****oldest member**** besides dave, trish and granny lois!!!!
and PROUD of it! ;)
I was looking for info on hibiscus seeds and how to grow them and up popped a thread(if I remember right) from DG. I was hooked, I didnt even fight it. The only thing that kept me from subscribing right off was money was tight at the time so I babysat for extra money and BOOM here I am. I sent a mo and even emailed Dave the day I thought it would begin I was so excited to join the forums and see what everyone was saying. I couldnt believe how great it felt to have him actualy respond to my email instead of a automatic letter. That made me feel even more welcome.
This has been my second home since I found it. I love it here and everyone that is a part of it.
I was over at That Other Site and wasn't feeling a part of it. Just had a cold, impersonal air about it....y'all who have been There know what I mean. That was the first of Jan of '01. A friend told me about this new site that was friendly and welcoming. I popped over and haven't left. I was about the 300th member...or thereabouts.
I was looking to learn how to garden... back when it was still a free site. Loved it immediately and when the time rolled around to pay up for the benefits, paid in a heartbeat!
It's my home away from home, too, like many, many of us here. I count it among my blessings for the friends plus the knowledge I have garnered over the last 3 years!
I was "rescued" from that 'other site' and invited to DG...been here ever since and never looked back!
I was looking up some plant on Google and it took me to the Plants Database.
The name's not changing! Hooray!! See the DG forum!
Mel and I could be living in parallel universes (I think we do, actually - grin...)
I found GardenWeb during the spring of 2000 when I was anticipating my move from Oklahoma to Tennessee and transitioning from "busy-full-time-manager-and-mom" to "busy-stay-at-home-mom-and-gardener."
I tried inserting myself into a few threads "over there", but have you ever been to a party and tried to ease into a lively conversation, only to find your comments create an awkward pause while everyone raises an eyebrow at the "interloper" before returning to their inside jokes and bantering? Ugh. That's how it felt. (No offense to those who feel at home on GW - it just didn't click for me.)
Summer brought a whirlwind of moving and remodeling projects, with little/no time to garden or surf the web. When the dust finally settled on all our remodeling projects in our new home, I decided to give the online gardening world another shot. In late January, I spent some time browsing around GW, but still didn't get any "warm fuzzy feelings", so I started searching the web for other sites.
And then I found this itty-bitty gardening site called - of all things - Dave's Garden. I leaped right into some threads and probably scared a few people, but after they recovered from their surprise, they seemed actually....friendly. (I guess they were getting used to strangers showing up out of nowhere, because 300 new people joined in that month alone, nearly doubling the membership.)
And....it's been my garden home ever since ;o)
I was directed here by a person at The Garden Party in "Spikeland". That was when it went to paid membership to some forums....felt I could get more bang for the bucks here.
Accidently stumbled on the site while trying to make the computer do something else. A bit of serendipity, so Walpole would have said.
Who is Walpole?
Fascinating! http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/serendip/about.html
I was actually given my subscription by another lovely DGer, Wendy. We had both run afowl of "The other site" and she was so marvelous as to introduce me to DG, and gave me a boot in the rear (badly needed I must admit!) to become a subscriber.
Have I thanked you lately Wendy?
I was searching the web for information on water lilies...discovered Dave's in the later part of 2001. Visited the plant database numerous time, through web searches, but it wasn't until I had been ripped off by a Garden Mail Order Co. and was searching the web about it that I found the Garden Watchdog, and wanting to add my two cents worth, that I became a member to post my frustration. After receiving an email from Spike I decided to pay for a membership here, not there, and have been very pleased with my choice.

My first encounter with DG wasn't a good one, I was given a link to a members tradelist here in November 2000. I had a quick scan of the site back then but got the wrong impression and leapt to a wild (and now rather embarrassing) conclusion about the site after some discussion with the member, they didn't even complete their end of the trade.
Fast forwarding to April 2001, a gardening friend from the UK gave me the site link. I thought I'd give it another look and realised how wrong my first impression was. Although many of the UK members from that time have fallen by the wayside, I'm still here :)
Linda Turpin, got me hooked on daves garden, If I could I 'd give her a big hug LOL Thanks Linda, This is a fabulous place to be.

I was sufrin the web looking for roses found DG found the rose forum and now I can't leave!
I moved into my first home four years ago and immediately started putting stuff in the ground. Every time I got a new plant I would "Google" it, and every time I Googled, The Plant Data Base would be in the top five entries.
It wasn't long before I was browsing around the site and discovered Dave's Garden. For awhile I would only read the first forum entries, but I was too curious to know what everyone else was saying in Dave's mysterious Secret Forum.
I just ponied up my $15 last week, and very glad I did!
And a happy hearty WELCOME to DG to you, ceceoh!
February 21, 2001 - The site I had been using dumped all my photos and several from here using the same site suggested DG and well the rest is history!!!
One year ago yesterday, I was searching the net for flowers to put in my yard and Daves popped up. i found a thread that was interesting but couldn't read the reply, I paid for a subscription right then .
Happy anniversary springsong! I was looking up how to propagate cleome. Found the Plants Database and then the forums and subscribed on the spot.
These stories are so interesting, and somewhat similar!
I stumbled across Dave's Garden searching for rare plant sources and cultivation. I stumbled up on the PDB on my search in Google and was very impressed. I was then a member at Garden Web and never really did find anything like the PDB there but I stayed at GW and continued to do my trades there simply because it was what I was used to and knew. Thankfully, I never paid Spike a dime. When I got banned from GW (for sending too many e-mails) I came here and right away paid to upgrade my membership. I'm still getting to feel my way around here but I was very much impressed with the welcoming atmosphere here. I do love it so much. I can't imagine gardening without Dave's Garden. The other thing that turned me on to this site is the name. It just sounds so neighborly and friendly. Don't you think? If I had a website I would definately advertise DG there to encourage more members. Here (as opposed to the other site) you don't feel like you're walking on thin ice every time you post something. GW gives me an idea of what it would be like to live in a communist country (like say Cuba).
It's no wonder we have all these new comers washing up on the shores of Dave's Garden.
Thank you everybody for your remarks. I have been gone the last 2 days and was really glad to come home with DG still Dave's Graden. I think all the things you have posted that brought you here, it seems like most of it was from some find of search. Maybe that will help Dave in some way to figure out how to draw more people into the forums and to subscribe if he knows how we all found DG. Thanks again.
Car dealers say the best salesmen are satisfied customers. Think if you want Dave to attract more subscribers then each of you should convince one person to sign up by pointing out your enjoyment to garden people you meet. I did it last week to a truck driver from Texas who started asking me about my tomatoe plants that I was giving to friends at work. He claimed he was going to look daves up when he got home because it sounded like something his wife would love to do. Ernie
Had found a few names of plants and so wanted to have a look at how they were. That was on Google and to a few of my searches ended up at DG where I finally signed in (as #2747) because I found the discussions in the threads were particularly friendly, informative and reflected a 'family atmosphere'. It seemed as though people knew each other before. I have come to stay and stay obsessed, thanks to the "Angel(s)" who have kept me along with generous gift subscription(s). I can tell you that my idea of gardening and my garden itself has taken a wonderful turn. But for this gem of a place I don't know where I would have been now.

Wasn't aware they're thinking of changing the name? A friend got me started in this group last yr. and I've grown to love it and the people here, very kind, caring and generous! Thanks! Denise
I have been here since Aug 26, 2001. I have no idea how I found Dave's but glad I did. It was free when I signed up but when it went pay I gave it no thought about paying..$15 well spent. I don't post a lot but I'm here almost everyday lurking & learning. I will miss all of U while off on a adventure to Alaska for the summer .. will will miss U all...well a little at least *LOL* I hope to be able to get on line once we get there so will still be around some. We MAY have a laptop with us. Only 2 weeks & 2 days before we leave.
My gardening friend Brugie, signed me up in January of 2003 and it has been a wonderful experience for both of us!!!
I just happened across DG by accident while snooping around for gardening information. I hadn't been on the internet too long, and was just amazed at the group I had found. (They were all just like me!!!) That first night I stayed up very late just reading threads, now, a day rarely goes by that I don't read a few, even if I don't always comment! If I ever have a question I just come here, and because of Plants Database I hardly ever use all the books I have ! I will never leave! Legit
Hi, Legit - nice to see you! :)
I was searching the net for some information for my dad, who is 500 miles away. He was having trouble with one of his hydrangea -- (all leaves, no flowers). I stumbled on DG during that search. Paid my $15, and in no time had the answer to his problem! GW was the first person I encountered here at DG, then everyone else started sending their welcomes - I'm glad they did, I'll be a member for life!
Dave
P.S. GW, I am writing this from my dad's kitchen table! Howdy from the Pocono Mountains of PA!
Hey! Candy said you were out of town. Bet it's gorgeous there! Your doggie with you?
