I have several cuttings/clones inside under a humidity dome inside my house and somehow a pest got in there. I see leaves that have been eaten on by what looks like catapillar but I can't find 1. I did see a few brown specs that jumped when I touched them trying to get a better look. Could those be leaf hopper's? They aren't mites, I don't see any leaf curl yet. I can't use insecticidal soaps since these clones are too weak and the phototoxicity from the sprays would burn them to death. I guess I'll have to remove them all and wipe down every leaf, I cringe at the idea of trying that. But these are all prized Passiflora's that I can't afford to loose. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'll drop by later w/ pictures hopefully.
Thanks, Jeff
HELP!
Well rather than wait like I probably should of, I went ballistic with a spray mix of rubbing alchohol and water in a 50-50 mix and a few drops of dish soap. I've read here about that mix for many different bugs so I ran with it. I soaked the plants down top to bottom then bottom to top and let them sit for 5+ minutes then rinsed them off and potted them. Cross your fingers please. I'm sure 99% of the clones will take since they were showing plenty of roots. I was trying to buy some time by leaving them in the clone tray until I got a hydro set up running. Oh well, I can still switch them back from soil to hydro if I get it done before they root a lot more. I just hate getting any soil, vermiculite or perlite in my hydro mix, we'll both survive. I'm so glad I made plenty of duplicate cuttings just in case. PHEW. Even though nobody read or replied, this place makes a great journal to vent my frustrations even if I'm only telling myself!LOL
I just saw this thread. Sorry JLD.
Did "the cure" help your plants? Seeing anymore more of them critters?
Sometimes I wonder why anybody bothers to garden, when I've had days like yours. There's always some bug, fungus, mold, whatever, to ruin your day! But then I remember why we garden, because we can't NOT garden! The beautiful results that we get at times far outweigh days we have like yours was!
I sure hope your plants survived their ordeal today! The day was really upsetting and frantic for you, but just think how your plants feel! They've been chomped, soaped, drugged with alcohol, and soaked, then relocated. Poor babies! : )
Now you'll have to go smile at them and talk sweetly to them, and tuck them in, for all they've been through. Mommies are like that, you know. I'm sure they appreciate your efforts to rescue them.
Hope they're feeling better now, and you too!
((((((Hugs)))))))
