Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

This is in my "shade garden." I thought it was red flowers, but knew I had not planted any there.

Closer inspection, looks like a outer space mushroom.

Santa Ana, CA(Zone 9b)

poppysue got it, it is a variety of stinkhorn!

south central, WI(Zone 5a)

Nope, it is one of the "pod-people" from outer space, who had too much fast food!!! What a strange one.

Washington, DC(Zone 7a)

I had one of those last year. Total surprise to me. Mine was shaped differently, but, Boy, was it a stinkhorn!!! When totally open, it attracted swarms of flies (I would go too if I were one) and they seemed to "eat" the plant. The next day it had no more of the slimy part and disappeared, drying out wihtin a few more days.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

There's a fungus among us! That's a really cool one! I once had a slimy orange one which resembled something I daren't mention.
