Hi all,
Our neighbors, two doors down, just moved out and I found something discarded that intrigued me. It is a 3 foot tall post about 4 inches round with 22 holes bored into it by a human. It has a hook in the top so it can be hung from a tree or a reasonable facimile thereof. My husband suggested it might be a wren house. It is old and seasoned and I fell in love with it, but what is it?
Please help, I love birds and if it's for them I want to use it as it was intended. The holes bored into it are approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep.
Thank's,
Anne
Love it, but what is it?
What diameter are the holes? I've made peanut butter feeders that way; but out of shorter lumber. I doubt if it's a wren house. They are solitary cavity nesters with large territories. No way are 22 wrens going to raise younguns in a condo hanging from a tree.
I didn't think so either. This man that lived there before owned the place and he passed away about 5 years ago. Since then his beautiful yard has been trashed by people renting from the new owner. He has just about every plant I ever wanted and it makes me heartsick to see his hard work detiorate and unappreciated. He had 3 of these posts that I described and they are all being tossed. He had planted several beautiful pines and even they are being neglected.
The holes are 1 inch in diameter and 1 inch deep. Perhaps winter feeders for the birds, stuff each hole with peanut butter mixed with seeds? Kinda makes sense.
Thank's for your help.
Anne
It does sound like the suet/peanut butter feeders that I have seen. Any chance of getting permission from that new owner to re-locate the plants?
