Lily Lovers II

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Yup... it's one critter you don't want. I think I read they entered the US in Mass and have spread northward. They just started showing up here 2 years ago. Hopefully they won't spread south.

Banning, CA(Zone 9b)

sue, i havent seen any of those yet.. lets hope its too hot and dry for them here... are they hard to control?

great, more nasty critters to worry about *sigh* I do hope they don't come south.

Lovely lilies cici77.

Here's a yellow Asiatic that bloomed this morning. I ran out and got this pic between rainstorms. It's been raining off and on since Thursday . . . I don't think my yard is ever going to dry.

Cici - mine are definitely a peach colar and very fragrant.

Hey Sundry, do you have a wooden privacy fence? The one the squirels run too? If so try pouring/putting bleach on it.. I will discolor the wood but the smell I know keeps "possums from coming back. I got that info from a wild animal trapper when I had a possum making a home between two privacy fences in my yard. I poured it where he was sleeping and all along the fence line where I didnt want him to go and I never had a problem with that little bugger again. Ive never tried it with sqirrels but I would think that if it bothers me and possums when you get too close then maybe a squirrel would have a big problem with it.

Lovely lilies!!! I'm still flowerless, but my buds are getting bigger and a couple might even bloom in the next week or two.

Just love seeing all the wonderful lilies out there. One thing I hope I don't see is that little critter of poppysue's!

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

Dravencat, bleach might be a good idea. I'd have to spray it along the top of the fence. Wonder how ugly it would look? LOL. Couldn't be worse than broken lilies! Fortunately, I haven't had any casualties lately.

All of the lilies that are currently blooming in my garden are yellow Asiatics. I don't remember having that many yellow ones . . . hmmm. I guess the ones that got broken were the non-yellow ones.

Cheri'

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

If I remember right it made the wood look almost new so I guess ugly would be what you didnt spray. If thats the case spray the whole thing, depending on how much fence you have would depend on how long it would take.

Here's the same lily as above but with lots of blooms!

Cherí -- I really like that yellow one on the right with the red blush towards the center! Mark that one, I might want to trade you something for some of those bulbs at some point if you see any of mine you'd like. Brenda

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

I'll put your name on it

I'm going to be re-arranging these lilies in the fall. Some are much taller this year than last, some aren't . . . it's a problem. We can trade then.

=)

can anyone tell me what the name of this lily is.. it started out bright yellow and is fading to a pale yellow.. i bought a packet of two Regale trumpets... and this was suppose to be one of them.. but they are not yellow on the packet... the other "regale" hand bloomed yet...

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

well the lilly beetle showed up in my yard this year. ugh!!!! i spent the other day starting to spray the bugs and the larvae. i had seen poppysue's post last year about her problem with them, and so i was on the lookout. we are about 5-6 hours apart. i have started another posting about the beetle, so as not to hyjack this thread.

Here is my Crimson Pixie today. Some hail took a bite or two out of the petals, but other than that she's lovely!

ok .. i need some info PLEEEAAASEEE...LILYFAN, IOWARON, SOMEBODY PLEASE tell me what i have done! i moved my oriental lilies out of the big bed because the gophers are having a party it seems in it and i have lost two already.. so i felt i had to move them.. which turn out to be better anyway because i can actually smell them now.. (: three of them broke off the bulbs!!! YIKES!!!!The stalks are about 2 and 1/2 ft tall with flower buds on them...some of the buds almost looks like they are ready to open... the underground part of the stalk is full of roots then some distance away was the bulb... with roots on it also.. i would say a good 4 to 6 inches away from the roots around the stalk.. my question is , will the stalk die? without blooming? will the bulb die? or just not bloom next season.. any info on this would be great..i planted the stalks anyway and the bulbs too.. not knowing what to do.. anyway let me know.. thanx guys!

langbr, great pictures and lovely lilies. I really like those brushmark lilies.

chrissy, it doesn't sound too hopeful and i think you did the right thing with the bulbs. I don't know what they will do though. They need the stalk with its leaves to nourish the bulb for the next season. As far as the stems with the fkower heads you can always put them in a vase if it looks like they are wilting and going to blast the buds. I had several bulbs show up this year that put no foliage up last year and I was going to replace them and lo there they were! Wait and see, you've done what you could.

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

Brenda, beautiful! Just beautiful lilies . . . my garden is in a bit of a slump right now. Just a few daylilies blooming, but lots of buds on my coop lilies!

chrissy, I'm with lilyfan - you've done what you had to do, now just hope for the best . . . . Several of my lilies got broken this year, I'm waiting to see what happens next year. Hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst.

Here is my very first martagon lily. Such a sweet petite thing. Not a great picture, it is hiding at the back edge next to the fence. Next year I hope for great things from this lily!

And 'Peach Elf' so much better than last year I can't believe it is the same lily. Supposed to be a dwarf, but someone forgot to tell her!

DebZ just for you.....the pinks!! Don't have a clue what the name of these are. I really need to move these next year as they lean nearly horizontal to the ground to get to the sun.

Hemlady - you're on! As I said, I've got to move these anyway. (And DebZ yes...I've got you down for some of these too!) LOL!

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

Thanks, now my only problem is going to be trying to remember who I offered trade to. I think I will print this thread up and hang it on my refridgerator. LOL.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Hemlady - on the right side of every page under the heading "YOUR TOOLS" you'll find Trade-Tracker. Give it a try!

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

Ok, thanks, I will.

Granite City, IL

Hi folks, I am new here. I collect Lily's, Daylilys and few other things. Here are some pic's of my blooming lilys.

I think these were mislabled they should be Coral Sunset but I do not believe they are it, but they are awesome.

P of M - you know they might still be Coral Sunset. They are very close and the color pattern is right....could it be the amount of sun they are getting is low or partial sun and therefore a deeper pink on the petal tips?

BTW....welcome Puddle....I keep seeing your pics and didn't realize you were new to DG. WELCOME indeed...it seems we have the same fancy in flowers!!! :-D

Granite City, IL

Well thank you langbr but here is another picture that I was thinking to be the Coral Sunset. This kinds fits a little more so I don't know. The flowers on on the first are more rounded I need to do a little more research.

Here's the only pic in the PDB which is what I was comparing your 1st photo to.....I haven't researched this cultivar so you probably are more knowledgable than I am on this one. I'll be interested to see what you decide.

lilyfan and sundry, thanx, and i kinda figured that they will prob die, ): ... so far no wilt and u cant tell that they are damaged... i imagine the bulb will prob die and so will the stem.. maybe if i am lucky it will at least bloom before it dies.. guess i'll just have to wait and see... i guess three broke out of 14 or 15 that were moved isnt bad, but i could just kick myself for being so careless and not knowing better...(: thanx though for ur input...(: i have O. lily pics to share... here is Berlin.
