My little gazebo

Mount Hermon, LA(Zone 8b)

This thing has been sitting in a box for over a year. A few days ago, I had DH drag the box out and I put the corner pieces together. Then my sister dropped by, got her whip out, insisted on finishing the project. LOL.

Now I have to think of an idea for "flooring" so I can put the patio set in there.

sweetpea - congratulations on a job well done. it looks terrific. maybe you can go with indoor-outdoor carpet for the flooring. i think they dry out very fast when they get wet. just a thought.

Since you already have bricks in the area, why not use some more bricks that will match them and make the floor a brick one? I think that would look really great.

In my summer house, I had a rug I bought for $5 at a yard sale... the polypropylene rugs that look like oriental rugs. I just hosed it off, occasionally using a broom and liquid soap to clean it up a bit.

I like the idea of bricks, though.

LouisianaSweetPea, Your gazebo looks great. It seems like a rug would be the quickest for this year. And maybe use brick or gravel next year. Do you plan to keep it in place all the time. Donna

Ruth, did you mean the floor covering or the gazebo? If a hurricane should threaten this area, I would pull up the stakes and dismantle the gazebo, or at least remove the top and secure the frame to the fence.

Thanks Herbie, Elena, and Darius! A rug.... I would never have thought of that, but it certainly is an idea worth entertaining.

My original idea was to cover the area with those 18-inch square reddish brick-like stepping stones you see in the picture. The big hold-up is getting DH to drag them home and haul them to the back. They are quite heavy. I hope that Home Depot puts them on sale sometime soon.

I even considered plywood, painted green.... just something to provide a solid base so that the table and chair legs would not sink. DH wanted to put gravel there, but I told him that if a hurricane comes through, we are going to be might sorry about putting in that gravel (like flying bullets).

DH also wanted to leave the middle as it is, grass-covered. I just gave him "The Look," because I KNOW that if he has to move the patio set every time, to mow, that I will wind up with grass growing through the chair-bottoms! LOL.

I'll think on it some more, and I thank you all for the excellent ideas! Will post a picture as soon as it is finished.

Here in Moab I [and several others I know] use yard sale carpets outside to floor our gazebos, paths and just generally to keep the winds of the desert from blowing away our "soil" and to killl weeds.

I too have a gazebo 'resting' in my garden shed - for two years now. You give me hope this will be the year mine goes up also. BWV
