Cultivator?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

My neighbor gave me some gardening tools from her yard sale. They were a gift to her from someone who "thought" she was a gardener.

I looked on the net and similar tools are shown, but in an array of several items.

Is this a cultivator? and if so, duh, what do you do with it and how does it work? (so I'll be your chuckle for the day :^) )

Thanks,
Molly

Oh my gosh Molly....that is something I would pay some big bucks for. Years ago in my previous house, I had lawn man who just mowed my grass, but he had one of these and it worked great.

It is used to pull up weeds, like dandelions and such. The little prongs on the front hold the plant and the little spoon looking thing is what touches the ground to give some leaverage to pull it out. That is a cool looking one.

Lucky you,

Let me write that down so I will be sure to have the proper gift for one of my favorite gardeners at our next get together. I have a similar one of these in my tool bucket.

Funny you should say that Frogs, cause my neighbor got that tool with a bunch of others in the 5 gallon bucket on wheels with a tool pouch wrapped around it.

I took a few of the tools, but the bucket? I'm a house painter, I don't pay for empty 5 gallon buckets. lol

Molly, the kids in a dance group I taught gave me a "bucket tool belt" with lots of tools and seeds and things as a gift one year.

Donna, I actually bought one of these at Target this year. It is made by Fiskers and I think it was $6.99 They work on newer dandelions okay, but the root just breaks when I try to use it on older dandelions. Worked great at quickly removing lots of henbit and some weedy grass, though. My trowel is just as quick, but not as clean.

Wow, I have never seen one with a "heel" to lever on -- Target you say? Fiskers, now that should be available other places too. I *just* need another tool...

Crystalspin,

I looked at it again and it is not fiskars (the trowel I bought was). It says "Corona". Yep it has the things to rest on the ground, except on mine it is bigger and actually like a crescent shape so it kind of rolls. Here, I just took a quick pic.

Sweez -- maybe I have seen one like yours, in a store (not this year so I forgot). Probably it is just as good at what it does, but I love the arc-deco look of Molly's!

Molly, is there any name or number embossed on yours?

Yep, I admit it's not very pretty, but it does the job. :)

Hey Crystal,

I checked and there is no name or any kind of identifying mark on that tool. Very strudy construction though.
