Crossing my fingers

Tilton, NH(Zone 4a)

I had a few seedlings - a couple of dozen - and after I put them into bigger pots I had no room for them inside. They had to be re-potted, they were very leggy from starting them in only a window's light. So... I put them in the cold frame, and when Dad got home he helped me put a lightbulb in there with them, and we put a little tarp over the whole thing. I haven't been outside yet, so I am sitting here with my fingers crossed that it worked.

I really would like tomatoes this year!

Tomatoes! Ah ha! lol It took me a minute to figure out what your seedlings were. It doesn't matter if tomatoes get leggy because you can plant the whole thing stem and all up to having just the little tuft of leaves at the top sticking out of the ground. Actually it makes a stronger plant because tomatoes can root along their stem when it is buried. :)

Now that I see that you are in zone 4 you early starter you! I will cross my fingers for your babies too. That light bulb might throw enough light to keep them alive but you'll have to leave it on all the time. The tomatoes won't start growing again until it gets much warmer up there. They'll just sit and wait.

Yep, I started them way too early!

But I won't leave them all wrapped up in the cold frame. I will take off the tarp (and turn off the light) and they will get some sun. It is supposed to get up to 70 over the weekend. Then when I get something set up inside for them, I will bring them in again, because our frost-free date is May 31 - a long time!
