Asiatic Lily Bulbs

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

I've been growing some pink fragrant lilies for the last 6 years, sold as "stargazer" lilies but now I know they aren't. They are solid color light pink and get (in 1/2 sun) about 3 feet tall and then, the first time it rains, they fall over. I"ve tried making a little fence around them to prop them up, and they just bend over the fence...not very cooperative I might say! Actually they are probably leggy from too much shade and that's why they flop.

So, I'm thinking of re-homing them. Is it the wrong time of year for that, or can I dig up the bulbs and share them now?

I personally would hesitate but then Brent and Becky's Bulbs are still shipping lilies. So I am no help really. I always prefer a plant to be dormant when I move them.

Have your lilies sprouted yet, showing any growth above ground? If not, I have sucessfully replanted them. Do you have your lilies in full sun? Most lilies require full sun.
If you are willing to trade I would be interested. I will have some "America [red] asiatic lilies to trade in a couple of weeks. They are talking snow flurries here either Sat. or Sun. If our weather had stayed the same I would have said in a week I could have dug some.

Maxine, They have sprouted already. The sprouts are a few inches tall now. I bet I could move them with enough dirt around them so as not to disturb them too much, so maybe I'll move them now and trade them this fall after the foliage dies off. Thanks for the advice.

Eileen, I got some bulbs today from Brent and Becky's and they were Asiatics and well sprouted. I think if you have enough dirt you will probably be ok. Might slow them down but it won't kill them. Since you are zone 5 you are probably just fine.
