Decisions, decisions, decisions!

This spring has been phenomenal. The Robins were out early, and everything is blooming, trees turning green - most of the days are extremely nice. As an almost 40 year old, I have never seen anything this nice in this area, but the older ones are saying the same exact thing. I checked the records for April in my zipcode, and it says 90 degrees. Well, we haven't got anywhere close to that (mostly around 70) but we just haven't had the turbulent spring weather we are used to having around here.

I'm not taking it for granted, but I AM taking advantage of it! I already have a farmer's tan (when I got my lip waxed today, my beautician asked me if I'd been tanning, bless her heart).

The HARDEST part about this is all those plants I have growing up in my sunroom want so bad to go outside. I checked weather.com, and the forecast up until the 15th of April didn't show anything below 36 degrees - most of the lows predicted around 40.

Well, I don't trust weather men, but trust my own judgement more. I wanted so badly to go plant my Four'OClocks today but held back, since only 4 have germinated so far (but there are nice and healthy and getting big).

What did I do? I took HALF of my lemon & sweet basil, which I plant near my tomatoes every year to deter aphids, and planted them in-between the kozy koats that my tomatoes are happily growing in, and felt safe, as they are on the east side of the house, get no wind, and the ground is getting warmed by the kozy koats. If they can make it past tonight, I will know I did ok. I also went ahead and planted my dahlia tubers and my pineapple lily. I probably could have done that a month ago, but they were in a drawer and I had forgotten about them.

Spring weather like this can really play tricks on us, and I try to remember that "Mother's Day" rule that we stick to around here. It is really hard for me. I really want to put my Cannas out - they are getting tall.

Oh we are! we are! My basil did very well overnight, not too worried about them even if we get a frost, because of the protected and warm area I planted them at. It is just so very very hard not to get out there and transplant my seedlings! Just don't want to be "April Fooled" I guess.

I'm having the same 'problem' here in Seattle Karrie.
The weather is just SO nice and I want SO bad to plant all my 'babies' out in their nice fluffy beds, but I just know as soon as I do there will be some aweful artic blast. Ever the pessimist, that's me :-)
All my datura, daylily, cleome, 4'oclocks, moon vine, hyacinth bean vines, Butterfly flower (poor man's orchid), foxglove, dianthus, blanket flower, etc etc etc.
I don;t know what I'm gonna do with all the room I'll have in my plant atrium once I do get to plant them out.
Oh yes I do, I'll grow more of something else....what an addict I am! :-)

This made me laugh, rikerbear. My hubby can't wait until I move my plants out of his workshop. He hasn't even thought about me planting more. Ha! He has to learn to share! It may be his workshop, but it's my La- bor- a- tory now!

La-bor-a-tory is it? How funny........
You should convince your hubby to use his half of the 'shop' to make you things for your half. Better potting benches, nice light tables for seedlings, etc. that way he'd feel a part of the 'gardening' experience and in actuality the entire workshop would than be yours :-) hehehehehehe

Riker bear I am dumpimg my huge gerainums out of the green house today I took a truck load about eight and put them on the southside of the house under the eves. Tomorrow another truck load of smaller ones are going along with about twenty flats of impatients, snapdraggons, fushias, lobelia, datura, violas, and who knows what else. This is at least three weeks earlier than last year. It was 76 yesterday and right now its 2:10 am and its still 46 degrees. all the flowers in flats are going to set it slelves on wheel so if it turns ugly I can push them back in fast but the big pots are on their own. I will probably start planting Dalihas soon usuall it is the 1st week of may. Yes its a nice spring here for sure. Ernie

Eweed, I put my dahlias in yesterday....I wasn't going to, but as I was cleaning up some of the dahlia beds I noticed some of the ones I'd left in last Fall were sprouting. So i figured if it's the soil is warm enough for them it should be warm enough for the new additions. I have a feeling this will be an awesome dahlia year.
