I've been keeping a blog since May 2002 and have made some neat friends through it. Do any of you keep a blog?
For those of you new to this term, a blog is an abbreviated form of weblog (web log). It's an online log, a journal.
There's a good explantion of them here: http://www.smilezone.com/blogs/
Mine is at gardenwife.com: http://blog.gardenwife.com
Zanymuse started on this year, too: http://zanymuse.blogspot.com and she's put together one for her dad at http://accordingtofreddie.blogspot.com/
I'd love it if you bloggers would post a link to yours!
Any bloggers out there?
i have many friends who have blogs. in fact, my best friend met her fiance through her blog-- insane huh!? they both had journals and she read his for several months before talking to him and asking him out(they are in the same town) and voila'! sparks and love and gooey happiness. they're great together. so i think blogs are neat!
i myself have been hesitant to start one because i dont know...having all my inner thoughts in cyberspace kinda scares me! do you (or anyone else) journal or just keep internet thoughts or what on there?
"gooey happiness" - LOL!
Oh, believe me, I don't post my inner thoughts (family and friends read mine!). I write mostly about every day things like friendship, pets, gardening, books, movies, music, technical stuff, artists I like, etc.
Hmm. I think I'll give it a try. Like you describe, not necessarily my innermost thoughts. If I keep it up (instead of just forgetting it), I'll post the link. I've always wanted to journal, but wish I didn't have to actually sit down and type! I do my best thinking while gardening, but don't want to stop to run to a pad & pencil or to the computer... Guess I'm just lazy.
I used Blogger for more than a year before switching to a server-side program, Movable Type, which is hosted at my website. Blogger makes it pretty easy to make hyperlinks and format your blog, but when I last used the free version, it was still a little difficult to upload and show photos easily.
http://weblogs.us/ offers free blog hosting and uses Movable Type. It might be worth a look. :)
Here's another they link to: http://mblog.com/

Thanks GW. I tried to sign up, but they have reached the signup limit for the day. I can try back at midnight, but I was a little confused when they referred to a "free Movable Type based alternative to weblogs.us, checkout mblog." Do you know anything about that site?
I just signed up at mblog.com -- They've talked about that on TechTV's "The Screensavers". I like testing new software and writing about it, and this was a freebie that many might enjoy!
Okay, I've signed up for mblog.com too. We'll see how it goes. You are soooo tech-savvy, GW! I'm enjoying learning from you.
Hey, I'm enjoying learning, period!
I have a bad cold and my heads full of bloggers-LOL
I get that, too, but fortunately I am an MT blogger (empty) right now.

__________
Thanks gardenwife:
Always wondered.
I signed up for mblog.
I'm also trying thunderbird other things.
Hey,
maybe I should ask ( tha april fool guy ) to change my name, to jusoleman or perhaps jusoldman.
[smile]
jus charlie
Hey, Charlie -
What's the URL for your mblog page? When you have something up there, let us know!
How about heycharlie here at Dave's? ;)
We used to have a dog named Heyou (hey you).
I'll have to remember to make an entry on my mblog. It's like, as soon as I signed up, I had nothing to say. (My son would never believe that.)
I started blogging when I discovered Kimberly's mention of it a while back and checked it out. It is fun to kinda of meander through and write whatever nonsense comes to mind or as GW says, comment upon everyday things. I do not use it exclusively as a journal since it is only in the total privacy of my real journal that I would or could truly bare my soul.
Dad's blog is actually being used to house his Sermons and Bible lessons that are linked to his Home Page. And Howie has a blog too. But he doesn't post very often so I am guessing him to be a wise man of few words ;~)
When I told Howie your comment, his face split into a wide grin. He said nothing, however.
LOL I thought that would evoke a smile.
"He said nothing, however."
Point made. :)
Mr. Golden Silence and I are going out shooting tonight. It's great having two digital cameras! We're going to do night scenes in and around Columbus, I think. I just got home from a nice late afternoon of picture-taking and he called to say they sent him home early. Bad on the paycheck, but nice to have him around for an evening. :)
How did that go? Did you have good weather?
It rained off and on, but just sprinkles and not much. I got some neat shots of neon signs, buildings and some spotlighted trees. Howie got neon shots and one of a couple of skyscrapers. Most of the buildings didn't even have their spotlights on by the time we got out there (11pm or so) and the cool bridges over the Scioto river were not lit, either. It wasn't a good cityscape night! I've been working on resizing and editing the best shots and hope to link to them soon.
Look forward to seeing them. I'm learning photography from all you great photogaphers here. The first week of May I'm taking off to drive around "hunting & shooting" wildflowers & gardens. This month is actually the peak wildflower time, but I can't take off this month. Anyway, hope to have some good photos to post.
Oh, how nice to enjoy a safari like that! Howie and I dream of doing that sometime.
Haha and hey:
Like maggiemoo, Now I got it?
Now what, me mind went blank!

I just saw Time Magazine had an article on bloggers -- thought y'all might like to see it. I also wanted to bump this thread since I know some folks have started blogging since this thread last saw the light of day.

I also want to thank Mandi for doing such a bang-up job on my blog redesign. She's terrific!

About 2- 3 weeks after I made the above post I had a severe medical
situation.
-
Things got a little slow for me.
(haycharlie) felt right for me so away I did go:
http://heycharlieblog.blogspot.com/
I made my first post when I got out of the hospital.
Tha rest of the year was off and on as to how I felt so there isn't much there.
Many thanks to all
Wow - didn't know you'd had such a close call, Charlie. Thanks for linking to your blog.
Regarding blog;
On the gardening part I added my favorite gardening forum.
We have had Robins about 10 days,
I was out tilling with my tractor some today and they were every where. Big Red Breast birds. Long as I stayed on tha tractor they didn't pay much attention.
Wish I'd had my camera. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow.
I saw one very fluffed-up robin in our yard today. He switched between feet, pulling the alternate up into his feathers while the other gripped the wire. Boy, he looked cold!
The Robins have been here gobbling up earthworms and getting fat for about a month (althiugh a couple of them never left) The Humming birds are fighting over the fuscias that are blooming and the little sparrows and finches are gorging themselves on seeds and spiders. They make for some fun watching.
Glad you pulled through Charlie. I have been seeing the robins around here for the last few weeks. Bobbie says they are here most of the year but I remember seeing them in the spring. Saw one this morning so big he looked like a small rooster.
Enjoyed all your blog postings. I told Bobbie she needs to do one and have it about having MS. It might be something that others might draw strength from. I swear that woman just keeps fighting that monster and I ain't betting on the monster.
Jim, you're so right! If you and Bobbie would like help getting something set up, I would be happy to get it ready for you.
Thank you for the kind words
Georgiaredclay, that must be Jim
In one your posts I think ya said
"I am a people person and gather energy from being around others"
-
Doing a blog might help in that respect. In a way, its like being around others.
GW got me started last year, although I'm jus now really getting into it.
(Haha ran out of gas last night, woke up cold so I updated mine)
You and Bobby working together on one might brings some pleasent surprises
Take care
GW, I liked the quotation by Einstien in your page. Are there any free places for blogging?
Sure are -- I'd suggest Blogger.com at http://blogger.com You can have your blog hosted for free at their service Blogspot, http://blogspot.com . Zanymuse's http://zanymuse.blogspot.com is an example of a Blogspot-hosted account. I've been getting a blog set up for DG's very own Aria, too...It's going to be at http://danube.blogspot.com
Okay gardenwife,
I said I would never start my own blog. I'm terrible with words. But it seems I have been mysteriously drawn. This might be a great way to inventory my garden projects. I haven't tried to add pictures yet.
www.osteole.com/blogger.html
I use blogger.com's website to make and publish my blog but hosted on my own website.
Great, Osteole! Looks nice and streamlined.
Thanks GW, I tried at blogger.com but it is not allowing me with any user name I enter.
Dinu, is it saying that the ones you tried are already taken? It can sometimes be a challange to find something that is not in use. Keep us posted and let us know what you end up using.
Tried my name, with different spellings, even my daughters' names DW's name.....none of them is being accepted. "..already in use".
