I have a neighbor

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

down the street that I have never met.

I guess my hubby's oldest daughter used to spend the night over there when she was little (he has boys).

He used to do the greenhouse thing, and his family still has greenhouses. I'm not really sure what he does now, but he always has beautiful exotic plants growing. Seems to me he left the business but not the spirit of growing things.

Today when I was filling up my kozy koats to warm up he waved at me when he drived by.

Maybe I should go down there and meet him, see if he has plants to trade (I sure do).

I am very shy meeting new people in person.

Karrie,

Meeting new people can be hard sometimes, but when you are a gardener, you are like family!!

Go down there and meet this man. He will probably be so excited to have someone that loves to garden to talk to. You might ask him if he has a computer and tell him about DG.

When I moved into this house 5 yrs. ago, I noticed a man outside gardening by himself. He only lives 2 houses down from me. I went down and introduced myself and told him that I love to garden also. He is a very, very quite man and I have become a garden friend to him. I was told by the neighbor between us, that he doesn't even acknowledge them when they are outside, but he talks to me.

You have nothing to lose, but lots to gain if you become garden friends.

karrie - go for it and don't be shy. you might just end up trading plants plus, one can never have enough gardening friends.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

How wonderful to maybe have a nearby garden friend. I have to drive 85 miles to see SoCal Lol! I have a couple of neighbors to chat plants with here. One grows orchids and another succulents. Go introduce yourself girl!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

It's good to know your neighbors - go for it! And if you can swap plants and gardening tips, all the better. :)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Yeh! and invite him to DG, too! Now wouldn't that be fun!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Since he waved at you I would say he wants to be friendly. Take a walk down there and make friends with a fellow gardener. The ball is in your court now, it's your move.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Oh just do it Karrie. You have nothing at all to lose and a potential friend to gain. Not to mention it is always good to get on the good side of your neighbors. :-)

Hanover Park, IL(Zone 5a)

I used to think my neighbors thought I was a little strange, or maybe lazy, to spend every free moment in the garden (small suburban lot turned into respite for me! I'm constantly covered in dirt) BUT.....this year everything is coming up and it will be beautiful....I may even use the looks and waves as a chance to make some new friends. I'll invite them to join me. The kids around here come over to see hte flowers. I think nature brings out the best of people. Go meet your neighbor
