Eclipse,

Our other company picked up another source of Hibiscus for commercial growers. They have some pretty neat ones.

Chris,
Duponts is about 40 minutes from me, I smell a rode trip...

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

Very cool Lisa. I hadn't realized they sold retail as well. They have a lot of interesting items along with the Hibiscus.

And thanks for the email.

Chris

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Hi ya Chris~
Duponts only sell wholesale, we are licensed to buy wholesale, which I admit I am spoiled, I don't shop retail anymore..unless I want *real* bad..and its gotta be real bad! Duponts supply most of the bigger nurseries around here and they sell to landscapers as well.

I was wondering if you got my email :0)

Have a great day!

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

Lisa,

On their site, they say they sell and ship directly to gardeners, though the prices are a bit high. $10.00 for a 4" pot. This might be something new for them, though. Here's what they say on the site.

Can I order just one plant, or do you require a minimum order?
For most of our offerings, we have to require a minimum order. Here's how it breaks down: Hibiscus, 4"pots: 6 plant minimum + $1/pot shipping and handling fee.
Other Plants, 4"pots: 12 plant minimum + $1/pot shipping and handling fee.
Wholesale Seedlings, in liner trays: 1 case (~3 liner trays) + $5/case boxing fee.

Chris

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

They sure do have some beauties that I wouldn't mind having in my garden. ;o)

Chris, I found the same info at their site as well.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

OOOHHHH...do I smell co-op........

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

That's not a bad idea, especially if you did liners instead of the 4" pot. The liners are in 78 cell trays and knock the cost down to $2.00 per plant. You'd have to get 78 per variety.

Not something I can take on, as busy season is about to hit full force in about 2 weeks, until the 1st of June or so.

I do know of someone that only lives about 40 miles away and was making a trip though.........:-)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Please, OH ,please!!!!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

How long do you think the liners would take to bloom, Chris? I hope someone will take on a hibiscus co-op. I'd sure be in and at $2 each, I wouldn't hesitate to order more than one of each.

hickory, NC(Zone 7a)

i would love to do the co-op ,that is if we do the liners i would be glad to order alot for 2.00 each plmk if you all decide to do the co-op
moretz

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Me too!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I looked at that site too. They also have coleus. Would this coop be strictly for hibiscus or would you include other plants?

Molly

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

Brugie,

Some of these may bloom in the tray. When suppliers send us trays for trade shows, they almost always have one or two that are blooming.

Under the right conditions, you could fill a 6" in about 16 weeks, and a 3 gallon in 32 weeks.

I took home a tray from one of our shows a few years ago, and planted the plugs in groups of 3 directly into the ground. Only one group of 3 failed, and the rest I cut back to the ground annually. They get 8-9' by mid summer.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Chris, I've been meaning to ask you about those flats with the seedlings from the trade show. Those I got from you were so full and healthy, definately ready to be put in larger pots. (I did that :^) )

How do you get you seedlings to be so full and fat? I'm am a bad seedlinger. Mine seem to be skinny and scrawny for such a long time (if they are lucky to survive that is)

Molly

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Chris. I'm ready to order if someone wants to handle the co-op.

Edited to change words. I don't think this would be a roundup. LOL!!

Molly,

A lot of it has to do with the facility. You too could put out trays like that with a million dollar set up, a 40k a year grower, and 20 or 30 legal immigrants willing to do piece work.

As a small grower, you'll have to experiment with the set-up you currently have. It varies greatly from location to location.

As an example, we have a Bougainvillea supplier in Florida that produces a nice cutting. He can't for the life of him produce a hardwood cutting of Boug's though. Another supplier in Puerto Rico produces hardwood cutting like he's sowing Marigold seeds. There's nothing to it for him.

Hidden Valley Hibiscus in Escondido cailf has many colors and kinds too.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Eclipse, love your wonderful shots of the hibiscus. I do like them but am not a good grower of them. I have a couple out in my greenhouse, one is a double orangish one and the other is a nondescript white, yours are beautiful. Donna

Schriever, LA(Zone 9a)

Count me in for a road trip or co-op! Now just look at what you started Eclipse...you and your gorgeous hibiscus, LOL

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Kyle,
.....Are all the hibiscus tropicals or are some possibly hardy ?
§hirley

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Kyle, you sure have some beauties. Hibiscus are my favorite after brugs.

A co-op would be wonderful but I know it would be a huge undertaking for someone who could get them wholesale.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

These are all tropical hibiscus...I just bought 5 more at the flower show here today...two more "Hot Ticket' and several others. :-)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Awww...Kyle, you like Hot Ticket also.

Can we trade? I have a bunch of tropical hibiscus, had one for you and you never posted on tropicals at the time, so I still have it.

Have 4 plants of this one. They have bloomed all winter inside. It just keeps getting more buds, like it the best for blooming so easily.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

I can't do a co-op either....lets see, we have about 300 houses under contract to landscape, I have the Farmers Market opening up on the 3rd of April, I homeschool my little one...uhmm..tomatoes were just planted..and the garden needs weeding....I am working on a new flower bed here for me...15 cats, 4 goats, flock of egg laying chickens,(eggs picked up and washed everyday) geese, ducks, dogs,pig.... husband, all for me to care for and tend after....uhm.....EEEK! I don't like to even look at my list. What am I doing sitting here...
