YEA!!! I did id...look

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9b)

I found an acer rubrum "Florida Flame" and although it was not in my zone of 9b I went for it. It leafed out but the leaves got pretty ratty looking and it didn't really put on much of a show. The "dead" stick sat and sat and a few days ago I looked at the dead stick and it had a few leaves! It was coming back, Now what do I do I guess has to be asked? I am just so tickled it broke dormancy...I thought it was DOA! Seriously...what should I do? It is in a 6" terra cotta pot. Should I move it up? and with what kind of soil? But it's HERE and it's GROWING like a weed! Any pruning or just leave the poor thing alone? It basically is a stick with on branch. Guess I should wait and see what all the buds up and down the main trunk do. Yippii! Skippee!

I think you should put it in a larger pot if you don't plan to plant it in the ground right away, it is gonna be a tree. A big tree. It probably has used up most of the nutrients in the small pot. Those roots need to spread out to feed and support the top growth.
