YEAH for figs!!!!
Does your fig set fruit? I wintered some in the garage and some I left out. The buds on the ones I left out are shot, but I still have green wood. Maybe I'll get fruit this season? Even if I don't I mainly grow them for the foliage.

Stockport, OH(Zone 6b)

I have a white and a red fig tree given me last summer as starts. Have over wintered them in the greenhouse and they lost every leaf on them, but low and behold they have leaves budding out on them this week and the white fig has little tiny figs on them! Tropicman- do your fig trees lose all their leaves in the winter?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

This is my first time for figs and I overwintered it in the garage, yes it lost all its leaves.I had it in the ground all last summer, dug it up and potted it to overwinter in the garage, now will plant it back in the ground after last frost date.

What kind of fig is that? How big does it get? I'm thinking of growing one in my greenhouse is a half barrel that can be moved outside (ooof) in the summer.

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

I am going to try all 3 ways in the house also, that way I should get 2 harvests, I hope. Thanks, Jody

Hi Mary,
Thats a Brown Turkey,I traded for a cutting ,rooted it a pot, then planted it in the ground, that was just the summers growth,10 ft in 5 months from a foot cutting.

I keep telling everyone they grow fast. LOL. JodyC

Oh Dear! I left my fig outside all winter in my garden.....what's its chances of survival in zone 7a? I thought they could be overwintered in my area....I'll let you know if I see any signs of life!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Mine stay in the ground year round, Dea. Only trouble I've ever had is from this year, and it was the pesky rabbits that chewed the bark from quite a few of the branches. Am crossing my fingers that new shoots will spring forth!

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

Shiley, you should be alright. Thanks, Jody

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I love figs.. Sad I don't have any one here.. I need to go and buy me a tree and plant in the ground.

Horseshoe.. I am sure it will shoot a new one . It happened to me one time after my Dh ran over with his tractor ( cutting the grass). It grew back! He ran over twice and it killed!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Hehehe...he musta really hated figs, eh? ;>)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Wow, I had no idea they grew so fast. The only fig I've ever taken out is from a Newton. ;) I love those leaves!
