Hello!
The leaves of my little bay laurel tree (Laurus nobilis) are covered with this black, mildewy-looking substance. I also found some on the fruit of my lemon and orange trees.
Does anyone know what it is and how I can get rid of it? Thank you.
Jean
What Is This Black Stuff?
It's Black-Sooty Mold. In and of itself it won't cause much harm - but it usually indicates an aphid problem. In the case of your citrus it's probably white-fly. The Black mold will usually wash of with a strong blast of the hose, but you'll really need to get the insects under control. I'd recommend using dormant or horticultural oil sprays. Best to start soon, too, before they start breeding.

Thanks again dogbane!
