My day

Palmyra, IL(Zone 5b)

I had a big grass fire yesterday. I'm okay I'm so tired. Praying; I sure was doing a lot of that while I was fighting the fire. A piece of a box must have blown out of the burning barrel, caught the grass and weeds on fire. I thought I almost had it out; then the wild picked up and it swept under the storage mobile home trailer, then I ran to put it out by the tractor, then on to save the barn had to go to the house for extinguisher, then to keep it out of the woods. It was one heck of a day. I ran inside to get the fire extinguisher which was to small to help much. I did save the barn by having it though. I will not by anymore potting soil until I have the largest fire extinguisher that they sell.LOL. Anyway only about 5 acres burned and a big bale of hay and some damage to the mobile home storage shed. They had to pull the tin/steel off the South side of the trailer to get it completely out. I did the best I could with a shovel and one small extinguisher. I burned my feet some right through my shoes. I had to run back to the house and kick them off to change shoes. I did burn my hand in a small spot by my thumb. The ambulance put me on oxygen for about 20 minutes, my B/P was 100/140 it is normally 100/65 they would have left me on longer, but I was to wound up w/ adrenaline to sit still. I was scared to go to sleep, but I was so tired. It's hard for me to walk to the mail box; from my meds let alone fight a fire by myself for about an hour. The only reason the fire dept. got called was my girlfriend was coming over to help me unload my truck from berry digging and taking cuttings I took the day before yesterday. Mom had to help me do that because I'm so weak from the interferon shots. I had the phone outside on the truck hood and it rang; right as I was getting the extinguisher. I asked her Tuesdi my friend to call the fire dept. I didn't have time to talk to then, threw the phone and started fighting it again. LOL. What a day it was. The day from but I think my angels were on duty. I gotta rest now. God bless you, he did me. Thanks, Jody

A day to remember for sure. Get some expanded metal and make a lid for your burn barrel. I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt. It could have been much worse.
