Florida Groundhogs Day

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

While officially unofficial, and by no means scientific, I can safely say that winter is over in Central Florida and further South.

How do I say this with such confidence? Simple.

The Love Bugs have arrived.

Unlike the northern weather rodent, their arrival says one thing and one thing only. Winter is over, and spring has begun.

On another note.

What a great weekend. My Daughters car wash fund raiser was held on the day of the love bugs arrival, causing people to line up 3 deep to have the amorous remains of these pests removed.

Then on Sunday, the girls moved up an age group to compete with the 17's in a volleyball tournament, that they had to leave for at about 5:30 a.m. These 15 & 16 year old girls went on to win the Silver division, and place 3rd overall.

Congrats to your girls!

As much as I "HATE Love Bugs",
I wish they would show up here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast!!

We also had a beauitful weekend,
it was just a tease. Since Sunday
night we have had heavy rains, wind, a Hale storm (Monday night)
& it is still raining. Temps will be dipping back in mid 30's at night again!!! I believe last weekend was the only SUNSHINE we have seen in Feb.

Tell the girls Congrats, Buried Treasure. It is good to see young people involved in activities like that.
Honeybee, one day soon..................we will have love bugs and sunshine!!

BT,
Let's hear it for LuvBugs! Happy for you and sounds like a great weekend for your girls. I'm in the same boat as Honeybee, teasing weather only to be drenched this week..sigh.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Winter is officially over here in the Northwest because I said so. :)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sorry to hear that the Love Bugs are out now, but glad for you that you should have little chance of frost from now on. Congrats to the girls Chris. I'll bet they keep you busy with all of their activities.

Brugie, thank goodness only 1 of them is mine. This Volleyball is a killer though.

I played on travel teams for soccer when I was her age, but that was nothing compared to this.

She has 7 one day tournaments and 2 two day tournaments in the next 10 weeks. It's crazy. We typically leave the house around 6 a.m and return about 7-8 p.m. depending on how they do.

I'm still trying to make the transition from soccer fan to volley ball fan though. Apparently volleyball fans aren't expected to be so vocal.

Ladibug,

That front hit us last night, and continued all day today. I love it though. We only got the rain, without the cool following. We'll still have highs in the 70's when it passes.

Early spring might make for an interesting hurricane season. I can't wait for that either. Mother natures furry at her finest, but still avoidable.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Chris, Last (2003) early February was unseasonably warm. If you recall, we had temps in the high 80's then and it never got cool again for the winter. I thought it would be a weird hurricane season for 2003, but.....nada.

Yeah, and it rained here from 2:00 pm yesterday until sometime in the wee hours last night. Only slightly cooler but the garden is sure enjoying all that fresh water.

And congrats to you and your daughter on the sports.

:^)

Roz,

Sorry, to hear you won't be at RU.

Did you know there is a "Gulfport
Swap" in March. If you are interested, e-mail me I will forward the info. Swap is just
north of I-10 & County Farm.
