Last Frost Dates

Princeton, IL(Zone 5a)

Is there a website which could tell me the last frost date for my area?

Try this link: http://www.victoryseeds.com/frost/

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I have to say I don't think the chart in that link is terribly accurate, although it is specific. Try one of the weather sites:

NOAA/NWS: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/
Weather Channel: http://www.weather.com/
AccuWeather: http://wwwa.accuweather.com/
WeatherBug: http://www.weatherbug.com/

and at least compare a few of these to what you find in the link pins provided. (I *used* to think the site in that link was pretty nifty until I realized how far out of whack it was with other reputable weather sites info ;o(

Terry, I know I'm a ditz at huge websites, but I went to the first 3 of your links and couldn't find any last frost dates. How are they found? As for the link that I gave, I'm sorry that it's not accurate. I just looked at my location, and it was right, so I just assumed they all were.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I went to that Victory Seeds one, and it sure was playing it safe for my area! It said May 20th, but mine is more like May 1st. But as a rule of thumb, I use May 15th "just in case". Playing it safe is better than losing plants. It's hard not to go out there and start planting when you've already had 80 degree days!

Your County Extension Service (MGV) should be able to give you that info..

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

i have always used this site http://www.floridata.com/tracks/misc/frostdates.htm

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

pins, for the NOAA site, I couldn't find it either, but I use this site for daily temperatures and historical information; here's a good link to help you get started: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/bna/climate.html (there should be a similar page for your nearest airport.

For weather.com, enter your ZIP and select "home and garden" info. Go down to the map and beneath it you'll find "Averages and Records" and I think you can find your last frost date within the data there...

When you go to Accuweather, you can enter your ZIP code and you'll have access to a lot of historical data - you just have to kind of poke and prod around to find what you're looking for. When I selected "lawn & garden info", I got this page, with links to first and last frost dates: http://wwwa.accuweather.com/adcbin/public/garden_index.asp?partner=accuweather

Weatherbug was hard to get into; I don't know if it's busy or experiencing some problems, but theirs works similarly - enter your ZIP and you can find what you're looking for.

Intellicast offers this mapped information: http://www.intellicast.com/Local/USNationalStd.asp?loc=usa&seg=Home&prodgrp=SpecialtyImagery&product=FirstandLastFreeze&prodnav=none&pid=none

MaVie's recommendation is for this table (I think): http://www.floridata.com/tracks/misc/FrostDates.htm

And yes, your local extension office is a GREAT place to get al kinds of information, including first/last freeze dates ;o)

Thanks for the great links. I should have thought of the weather.com link, I'm always looking there for winter weather information!

Off to look!....

According to the Floridata site, Chicago is April 14 and Springfield is April 17 for last average frost. I am about 2 hours from both, so should be around that. I will take May 1st to be safe and so I should start my seeds about March 15. Thanks for all the help!
