Envelope went out yesterday. Thanks, Ursula!

10 down, 9 to go! The first 10 envelopes arrived today at the post office, and I turned them around and sent off those 10 seed packages this afternoon.

I'll keep checking the post office and I'm sure the rest will arrive tomorrow or the next day.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Dave, I had planned on doing a silent auction at our next RU in September of this year. The idea was that all money would go toward this angel fund. Just wanted to communicate this with you and see if that sounds good to you or not.

Thanks.

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Dave, I just sent mine out. Sorry I am late. Hubby forgot to mail it. On its way!

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Mine went out too....

Ursula; I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you for offering this to DG gardeners/friends. Looking forward in starting the seeds, plus helping out other gardeners who would like to join, but maybe just short of funds at the time.
What a wonderful idea you had. :) I'm willing to support any worthy cause.

Dave, thank you also. Received the seeds yesterday in the mail.

Jeepers; here I have been looking and trying to find information on the seeds; forgetting that you had posted the links here on your thread. Now I can check on the ones that I couldn't find. Thanks for posting those as well Dave. :)

One question tho:
How does one grow these seeds? Planting insturctions;sun, shade, type of soil, how tall, etc.

Santiago, Chile(Zone 9b)

Hello!

As Coco suggested, I have compiled some information that will help you to germinate, grow and cherish your "Chilean Garden", as follows:

The information provided for each plant proceeds from the book Flora Nativa de Valor Ornamental, Chile Zona Centro by Dr. Paulina Riedemann. Dra. Riedemann and her students at INACAP tested best propagation conditions of each species for many years and the advice given is for the best results they obtained.

Please keep in mind that these trials were made outdoors, in our Mediterranean climate. If you have growing-lights, etc., you will have to adjust the conditions.

· Alonsoa meridionalis (Maske Flower) scarlet/orange (100 seeds) P [HYPERLINK@www.ujf-grenoble.fr]
Herbaceous perennial up to 1.5 m, scarlet flowers during spring and summer. The seed-pod resembles a small chili pepper. Loves full sun. Do not over water.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: one portion compost, half a portion regular garden soil(dirt) and half a portion sand (river-sand). Transplant once the plant has two true leaves.
The plant can be used as a single isolated plant, in a mixed border, in containers and balconies, under shrubs that are not too dense.

· Alstroemeria ligtu ssp simsii, orange (20 seeds) P * [HYPERLINK@www.ujf-grenoble.fr]
Herbaceous rhizome up to 70 cm. Blooms late spring/early summer. Full sun or part shade. Do not over water. Do not expect it to flourish the first year from seed. Once a year, in Fall, fertilize with well rotten manure. Lift every three years to divide rhizomes.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: one and a half portions(measures) of regular garden soil(dirt), half a portion compost and one portion sand (river-sand). Transplant carefully (in order not to damage the rhizom) only when the plants reach 5 cm, using the same mix.

· Cassia multiglandulosa (syn. Senna multiglandulosa), lovely shrub with clusters of golden-yellow flowers (30 seeds) P
This evergreen shrub reaches up to 3 m and is very drought and saline winds resistant. Loves full sun.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: 1/3 sand, 1/3 regular garden soil(dirt) and 1/3 compost. Transplant once the plants have 2 true leaves.

· Cistanthe amaranthoides, succulent groundcover for dry spots, magenta flowers (50 seeds) P [HYPERLINK@images.google.com]
No information available. This succulent proceeds from the Atacama Desert (the driest desert in the world), so I suggest full sun and little water.

· Conanthera trimaculata, exotic indigo blue bell-shaped flower with a black *eye* on three of it’s 6 petals (50 seeds) P * [HYPERLINK@images.google.com] The flower is much prettier than the only picture available on internet.
Herbaceous corm. Up to 60 cm. Loves full sun and rich, well drained soil. Do not over water. Do not expect them to flourish before 3 years from seeds. Once a year fertilize with well rotten manure.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: 1/3 compost, 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 sand. Transplant (using the same mix) the second year to give the corms the chance to develop.
Plant among other bulbs in beds, containers or pots. Good cut-flower.

· Desfontainea spinosa, beautiful shrub from our rain-forests; looks much like Ilex (Holly) but has much prettier flowers (30 seeds) P [HYPERLINK@images.google.cl]
Evergreen shrub, up to 2.5 m. Shade, partial sun, blooms during summer. Grows fast from seed (50 cm the second year). Flourishes the 5th year from seed. Requires very rich and well drained humid soil. Keep foliage humid.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: 1 portion compost, 1 portion acid soil and half a portion sand. Apply fungicide. Transplant (using the same mix) when the plants have reached some 10 cm. Otherwise you will lose a great percentage.

· Eccremocarpus scaber / Chilean Glory vine (100 seeds) P [HYPERLINK@www.ujf-grenoble.fr]
Climber. Up to 5 m. Full sun. Do not over water. Requires well drained soil and neutral or slightly acid pH.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: 1 portion compost, 1 portion sand and half a portion regular garden soil. You can also sow them directly in Spring.

· Phycella ignea (red) & Phycella bicolor (red & yellow) mix, pretty bulb plant with trumpet shaped flowers (30 seeds) P * [HYPERLINK@images.google.cl]
Bulb. Up to 50 cm. Full sun. Do not over water. Do not expect them to flourish before the third year if grown from seeds. Require rich well drained slightly humid soil. Lift bulbs every 4 to 5 years.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: 1/3 compost, 1/3 vermiculite and 1/3 sand. Do not transplant (using the same mix) before the second year to give the bulbs the chance to develop.
Can be planted under low shrubs, in containers or pots and is a very good cut-flower.

· Sisyrinchium striatum, purple veined yellow flowers (50 seeds) P [HYPERLINK@images.google.cl]
Rhizome. Up to 1 m. Full sun, medium water. Flourish the first year grown from seeds, increasing the amount of flowers during the next years.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: 1/3 compost, 1/3 regular garden soil and 1/3 sand. Transplant (using the same mix) when the plants have reached 5 cm.

· Tropaeolum brachyceras, lovely climber with yellow flowers, produces a tuber (20 seeds) P * [HYPERLINK@www.bulbsociety.com]
Tuber. Climber up to 2 m. Blooms from late winter to mid spring. Require well drained slightly humid soil, neutral pH, high luminosity and full sun. Also require support to climb. Will bloom the second year if grown from seed.
Propagate from seeds in Autumn (stratify) in a mix of: 1 portion compost, ½ portion regular garden soil and 1/3 sand. They will germinate January /February (in the northern hemisphere) and should not be transplanted before one year, after they have lost their foliage and have formed a tuber.

Seeds are here!! Thanks so much Ursula and Dave!! Thanks for the great info too, Ursula. :)

edited to add: I printed out the instructions to save them and only missed by one page where to start printing. (pg. 13-17) Is there a way to know what page to start in if you want to print something in the middle of a thread? I suppose I should have put this in a different forum? dum-dum here!
