Maryland is one of the states that will be inundated with Cicadas either by late Spring or early Summer! Besides the mess they create, the deafening noise that they make, DON'T plant any woody plants until they have left your area!!! They will strip a tree or bush faster than you can scream, "they defoliated my garden"! :~(
Beware!!!
Check and see if your state is on the list for 2004.

Cicadas-17 year old Locust Are Coming....
when i went to Ga a few years ago i could not believe the noise those things make-I called the older kids at home so they could hear them! you could hear them over the radio playing in your car!!!
I couldnt stand that everynight!!!
