every year my crop makes well but i always have the holes and ant problems with them. how do i organically stop this from happening. the ants really eat them up badly.

Try sugar and boric acid traps and dishes in and around the beds/plants. Human urine is is reported to be a good ant repellant/killer. You pour it down the ant hill. I've had mixed results with it. Get an anteater. LOL. If you find a hill outside the potato plot pour very hot to boiling water right down the hill. Use a gallon or more to reach deep into the colony's tunnels. Adding some household ammonia will help too.

There was a thread last year about using grits. Yep, GRITS! I'm sure you have some of those, jcf!

Edited to say: found it! http://davesgarden.com/t/384703/Grits

'Course, Shoe, you probably enjoy real grits. The ones that cook for like 20 min! Now those are good grits! I may live in the north, but my daddy's from Evansville, IN. and his mother from KY. She made grits, fried mush, fried okra, turnip greens, etc. when I was a little girl. Mmm Good!
