Server is moving!!!

YAY! We have a new server - this one is in Miami, FL and it's on a SUPER FAST connection to the internet.

I've spent this week getting it prepared to host DG (and all its related websites) and it's almost finished. I'm hoping to move the site this afternoon.

So, most likely you'll need to relogin after the move to the new server. Just be prepared for that. If you have any questions about the move or are unable to access it, let me know! My hope is that you won't even notice the move at all.

Couple more hours and we'll be ready to go.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

dave, will this apply to everything you host also?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Yes, will the myZF people need to re-login?

No, only the following sites are moving:

Dave's Garden
Plants Database
Garden Watchdog
(and 2 other secret gardening sites that nobody knows about yet!)

Everyone else stays on this server.

Dave, you big tease!!! (and 2 other secret gardening sites that nobody knows about yet!)

hehehehehe :)

Willacoochee, GA(Zone 8b)

2 secret sites?
I remember one of them, Dave told me about how he was actually Spike from Gardenweb...
He informed me of this when we were on his private jet (you know the one with the supermodels and hottub).

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh my...More gardening sites!!? (Always wondering what'll happen next!)

(I think dave just wanted a good excuse to fly to sunny Florida!) :>)

Well, the server move is complete! If you notice any problems as a result of the move, please do let me know!!

thanks,
dave

Not even a burp on my end. :)

It's pretty fast and it seems stable. I'm happy so far!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

And when will the secrets be revealed? Am I missing them?

Couple weeks on the secrets.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Nothing amiss here either...didn't even have to log in.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

As of about 2 minutes ago I can't get into the PDB, the page I get says it is moving.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

ditto MaryE's message!

Just keep trying to access it periodically. It can take a while before your ISP finds the new server and sends you there. For now, you're still looking at the old server.

Cool! I like the new look too! Is it going to stay this way?
Looks more neat and compact!

New look? I didn't change the look at all!

I got in fine too! TWO secret gardening sites???? Sheesh, I can't get all through this one! LOL

Well, I think I can give a hint about one of the two: it's going to be a website just like the Garden Watchdog, but it is going to have gardening books.

Terry is hard at work right now adding all her books - I figure it'll be a couple weeks till she's ready to launch it. Looking at it so far, it's an outstanding resource!

The other one is definitely a secret!! :)

O but the look on my end is TOTALLY different! No kidding!

Probably you previously had customized the browser to look a certain way on the site, and then when I switched servers, your browser reset itself back to the standard config. The way you are seeing it is the "default" look.

Ohhhhhh poop!!!! I want to know the other secret Gardening site! LOL. I logged today as usual, no problemo's!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Wow...cruising right along here! Wonderful transition, Dave. Minimal downtime, too!

Can't wait to see the new sites! (Teaser!)

By the way, on Molly's pic of her screen I noticed "Custom Menu". Mine doesn't show that...did she do it and that's why her's appears different to her? (I wasn't aware we could customize the menu. Or can we?)

Acton, CA(Zone 8b)

Rats... still won't let me in. I'll try again tomorrow.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Here to report that its back to the normal look now. I now have the black lines in between each of the Forums/threads.

Not sure what happened, but its back to norm now :)

Shoe, I've always had that Custom Menu on the right side... I thought everyone did??

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

My PDB is back again. I noticed that Custom Menu thing on Molly's screen too. I don't have that either! ?

Northern California, CA

To get a "Custom Menu" go to your Preferences page, then to Custom Menu from the left handside of your screen, there you'll see some Yes/No Questions:

***************
Set Preferences: Custom Menu
You can customize your menu to add some nagivation features to make navigating your journal and trade lists easier. If you don't know what this means, just ignore this page. :)
Do you want to show a Journal RID jump?

Do you want to show a Journal Search Box?

Do you want to show a TradeLists TLID jump?

Do you want to show a TradeLists Search B
*************

If all of these are no, then no "Custom Menu". :-)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Ahhh...that 'plains it, Happenstance. Thanks!

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Wll I could not get in until I shut my browser down and restarted it. Dang, I missed a few hours of DG.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

My garden watchdog won't open this morning Dave.

Molly

Just found out the chat room isn't working either. It kind of opens but just doesn't work.

Garden Watchdog opened ok but chat room isn't working. It opened but then just the side bar and message line are there and nothing happens when I type in the message line.

The chat should be working now.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Thanks Dave, everything is good now, we're all happy :D

yup, all is right with the world (DG) today!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I can't wait to see how fast it is at 3:00am! That's the time it bogged down and it always signaled to me "time to think about going to bed, young lady". Now I'll never get to sleep!

Bethelridge, KY(Zone 6a)

I can get into the PDB o.k. but when I scroll down on the right to get into the 'special' menu and click on 'beans', 'tomatos', etc., it starts to load and then clicks back to the 'welcome' page. Anyone else having this problem?

gardenwife: It should perform a little bit better tonight at 3:00am. Let me know how it looks to you, as I will be curious.

Big_Red: We've discontinued the *DB's (Beans, Tomatoes, etc) but the links are still there. I just now removed them.

We are working on a good replacement for those systems. Hopefully it'll be soon that we have a good replacement up there.
