hair trouble

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I've been looking at hairstyles online, trying to decide what to do with this floppy mop of hair. I'd like highlights around my face, too. It's been fun finding sites that let me put different hairstyles on my head.

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

gw where are those??

John, you're right, it is sad when that happens... I've been through that whirlwind of bad hair trouble that spirals into one expensive fix after another until you're a grand in the hole and still don't look like you want to look.

But the saddest one of all was the time I went and she did exactly what I wanted - the perfect color, a nice, soft strawberry blonde just like my hair was as a child, and it washed out and went totally blonde with no strawberry in about 3 shampoos... that was my first $100 haircolor job and it took years to get the gumption to do that again when I could get so close to it with over the counter stuff for $6 and after all, in less than 4 weeks I need my roots done... another $100 every four weeks? That gets pricey...

I think that cost is the prohibitive factor for most of us when it comes to the professionals... that and perhaps attitude. I wish I had a nickel for every time I have been told "your hair won't grab a perm" when I know full well it will and they use too msall a roller or leave it on too long and I end up looking like I should be singing, "Tomorrow, tomorrow" and have to get it all chopped off because it fries it and it ends up breaking off because it just won't take a perm...

Not that all cosmetologists are that way, of course, but many just don't believe I know what I am talking about, even though it's my own head, LOL.

Highlights are fun... but to be honest, to all those with virgin hair my advice to you would be to think long and hard before changing what God gave you... He's the one who knows best what goes with your hair and eyes and everything and once you start coloring you usually need to keep on doing it forever!

That's my 50 cents (as usual!)

I never thought of myself as having virgin hair. I like that, LOL...

Franklin, LA(Zone 9b)

i've currently got virgin hair
i chopped off all the pink hair about 2 years ago and i've been letting it grow
not because i want virgin hair or anything.. but because i want it to get a certain length before i dye it again
this time i'm thinking i'll let it get a little past my shoulders and dye it lavender
dont ask why..
it's just one of those things i want to do
lol
like having my labret pierced..
just one of those things i wanted to do, but cant really explain why
:)

I get the occasional perm and semi-permanent color wash (washes out in about a month). Oh, I wouldn't want a piercing around my mouth - that would drive me nuts. Two in my ears is enough, LOL!

Janie, one of the sites I found was http://www.matrix.com/find_your_hair_style/ I need to find the other one again - forgot to bookmark it!

These have free trials you can download:

http://www.visualmusic.com/main.html

http://www.visualmusic.com/hotd.html - This page has some hairstyles you can save and use with your picture. The images are transparent gif's, so you can layer them on top of a photo of yourself (that's a whole other issue).

iVillage lets you play online (only works in Internet Explorer): http://www.substance.com/es/mom/

actually, GW
the labret piercing isnt really as annoying as you would think
if you have a stud that's the right size then it just sits there and looks pretty.. it moves with your lip and you dont really even notice it's there after it heals up and everything
but if you've got a stud that's too long.. then it flops around and gets annoying, and you end up chewing on it and messing up your teeth
i had that problem when i initially got mine pierced...the stud was too long, but then i got a shorter one with a rubber coated back.. and everything worked out fine, the rubber coating prevents it from chipping your teeth.. and rubbing and doing damage..
i've had that stud out for about a year now, but i'm going to get it redone pretty soon.. hehe
i've got the piercing itch..
and that's an itch that just has to be scratched.. lol
otherwise i end up with safety pins in my ears again
but that's just another story i'm not going to get into right now :)

Oh, Kim, this is going to be fun! Thanks for the links :)

Janie, reds fade! Your hairstylist should have recommended one of the shampoos which actually contain pigment to refresh your color as needed (as opposed to the ones that simply do not strip it out). And after three shampoos, I would have called up and asked questions! They could have given you a 10 minute semi-permanent color (at no charge) to get the red to hold. You had me hysterical with the "Annie" reference!

John (I'd dye for you...)

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

You have me just as hysterical with your reference to that salon offering me anything at NO CHARGE... bwahhhahahahaha
I'm rolling in the aisles here, there is just no way. When I did return to them in six weeks with my very blonde hair they said I must have used a cheap shampoo and there was nothing they could do except a new reverse frosting to the tune of $150.

Needless to say I went back to the local drug store and started doing my own again. I was thrilled with the newest offering by L'Oreal - where you can paint in your own highlights - but my hair got pretty fried from that pretty fast.

But of course not as fried as it is right now from a bath in frosting bleach, LOL

Thanks John, I'm tempted to make a trip to the shore with DH just so you can fix me a do

Well, I did it again. Not red tones tho I got some red highlights anyway. I use Nice 'N Easy nearly all the time. I can pretty well depend on what I will get with that brand. I guess it's because I've used it for so many years. This time I used Natural Light Golden Brown. It is sure different than the usual Natural Light Reddish Blonde I usually do. But I'm 61, have more salt than pepper and lots of previously bleached ends(too much there to remove at this time)and just can't stand looking so old. My aching body keeps me well reminded of my age so I feel the need to do something about my appearance.

I had my hair bleached professionally just one time. The beautician convinced me it was neccessary to completely strip my hair of all color and then dye it to the desired color. That was in the late sixties and I've never let a beautician color my hair again.

Kathy, how wonderful to be able to let your hair grow like that. Our 2 daughters both have thick hair. My hair is so limp and much thinner than it was when I was younger. I think several years of wearing wigs a lot did it. At least that is when it started thinning. Haven't worn them in years but the hair thickness never came back. I started finding grey hairs when I was about 27. Just a couple here and there for many years. Then about 3 years ago it started going grey faster.

I need to find a way to get rid of this suddenly aging skin. This is the first year I have ever had skin that looked anywhere near my age. I've taken pretty good care of it but I guess I didn't use enough sunscreen, hats, etc. the past few years. It isn't dry on my face and neck area, just gettting to look aged if you can understand that.

I could use a good makeover, but probably wouldn't be willing or able to keep it up so why bother.

I've been dying my hair for about 7 years now. It's Ultress lightest auburn. I only have to do it once every 3-4 months because it is close to my natural light/medium brown and it matches my pale freckled complection. People NEVER notice it's dyed. Even my hairdresser (an amazing guy) has had to ask me a couple of times if I dye it. I tell people that I'm not a real redhead and they don't believe me. lol I guess it helps when you have the firey temperment too! I think the trick is not to go to extremes.

I thought I might catch a bunch of DG friends here and invite y'all again to check out "The Well" which is my personal "myzfforum" area.

I am currently inviting people to participate in a discussion or two and you are welcome to take a peek and see if you'd like to join in.

If what is going on there interests you, please feel free to join in the discussion, invite others to visit and add to what is being said, etc.

It's a place to talk about stuff we don't discuss here - outside the realm of DG's forums and terms of use... and more focused on spiritual growth and Christian living. It's frankly Christian so if that's not your thing you probably won't like it and I'm not into that type of debate... I'm looking for like-minded friends who can help me grow.

If you're interested, pop over to:
http://thewell.myzf.com/ and check out the beginnings of what I hope will grow into something that helps me, and everyone who visits, to grow...

Thanks!

And by the way... back to the subject of haircolor and trouble..
has anyone tried the new Garnier 100% color?

I have a box of #930 light golden blonde sitting on my desk here... hoping it will help even out some of the weird tones that are starting to look a little bit out of place now that roots are coming in...

my friend Holly is asking me to help her get her color back to its natural dark ash blonde from a very light over-processed blonde color that turned way too golden... so that should be a fun challenge..

here we go... whee!!!!

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

I couldn't stand it anymore and took a scissors to it yesterday and cut off the fuzzy awful parts on the bottom ... since I did that fiasco with the frosting bleach the ends have gotten frizzier and frizzier, like you would NOT believe.

So I just took my bangs trimmers and cut the bottom off my hair - have you ever seen where they do a "committment cut" on the makeover shows? I wanted so badly to get rid of the damaged hair that I did that for/to myself yesterday.

You know the weird.ironic thing? DH did not say one thing to me about my hair, even though I cut a good 6 inches off it yesterday.

So today I am off to the hairdresser's to get a LOT of hair cut off.

Here is the look after my committment cut... wow, my skin looks lovely today (NOT).

awww hair all gone bye bye now. Poor little hair, didn't know what to expect from you and was frizzing up just because it was scared of what you were going to do to it next.

I did a commitment cut once. I was about three years old when I cut my 24 inch long hair over my eyes to just next to my scalp. Mom cried, Dad cried, Sister cried and I giggled at them.

I hope you love your new hair cut now.
