Well now I've done it ... that's what I get for being iced in all by myself...
Thought I was gonna fix the hair problem I had it was too dark because I mixed too much of the light brown this time and gave myself boring brown hair so I thought I'd use this new High Dimension comb in highlights to give myself a frosted look. Well, it squirted out in big blobs, and before I knew it, it was everywhere!
I had to comb it through and what do you know? In about 10 minutes I had the brightest fake looking brassy BLONDE hair in the world.
Good thing I stopped it after just a few minutes or I'd be snowy white... oh, brother...
It's only been this bad once before and then it looked like a gold fish... Yikes! What on earth should I do now? I am thinking of having it either reverse frosted (dark streaks put in, an expensive prospect and one that does not last) or just forget it and dye my hair blonde again and stop trying to be my old strawberry blonde I was as a young woman ... my hair's yucky gray now and almost impossible to keep any pretty color.
Rats.
hair trouble
Janie, I think it looks fine, but then I don't know what it usually looks like or what you wanted it to look like. Have the tried calling the maker of the hair dye? I once colored my hair a reddish tint (or so I thought). It came out purplish. All the younger people at work loved it - I hated it.
Janie, I'm sorry, but I love it!!! LOL! not the hair so much as the story and the look in your eyes. I don't think I've had the honor to 'meet' you before, and it's a very nice early morning pleasure.
something in your eyes tells me you're not going to have a problem with it either way!
Yes, tiG, I got that same feeling, LOL! Nice 'do, I think. :)
You know, if you just go gray it is like being ash blond anyway !
Janie, is that color different than it was in this picture on your member page? http://davesgarden.com/photo.php?member=Janiejoy
Wow! I thought it was more from the flash. I still think it works.
When I sang in a punk band I had pink hair too but it was baby pink, I bleached my hair totally white (which I loved) and then put fanci-full pink over it - it looked like cotton candy. That was my favorite color of all time - not do-able now, though, I think my Mennonite mother in law would fall over in a dead faint!!!
I don't think blonde is your best color but to be honest, my DH keeps saying he likes mine this brightly blonde so I think what I'll do is find a way to tone it down and stay blonde... gotta please the husband... he's the one that has to look at me all the time. ")
i tried to bleach my hair completely white...
but it just goes this really bad brassy orangey yellowy color instead
lol
Miss Kitty, you don't appear to be that old. Don't rush the white hair!!! It will come soon enough and is hard to deal with...Kathy :)
Janie Joy - You sang in a punk band ? I'm your friend, not your mother-in-law. And I am falling over in a dead faint !
HoneyGirl, I thought the same thing. We have a whole new picture of you now JanieJoy. And with Pink hair? How young are you? LOL :) Kathy
Yep, it was called "The Bomb". I was the alto... and it was a blast. We sang every Tuesday night at a bar called "The Fountain" on the campus of Akron U and also sang a gig at Tangiers, a big name club in Akron. It was such a blast.
And no, I was no smaller than I am now, LOL! I'll be 48 this year... on the 7th of March. I've done lots of fun things in my life... and that was one of the most fun things I ever did. I'd do it again if the opportunity arose! Every Sunday now, I sing in a praise & worship band at church that is even more fun because we sing for Christ! Our Pastor plays acoustic, and we have a rhythm guitar and an electric guitar player with a braid down to his waist, LOL! It's so much fun.
I'm an old hippie, I admit it. Still writing songs, too.
Life is a fun journey but really those days were more fun than most of the other days I've lived.
JanieJoy, Good for you! for being your own person. I wish I was closer, would love to sit in your church and hear your group. God loveth a cheerful giver! Life isn't always fun, but when you look back on your pages and see something that makes you laugh, then it is worth those bad chapters, don't you agree?
Happy Day to you,
God Bless,
Kathy ;)
i'm 20, MistyMeadows
but i feel 40 sometimes.. lol
and i've already got a few grey hairs here and there
:)
Kim
I am one of those people who has been taken from the miry clay... and yes, Misty, it makes the reet on the rock all the more sweet.
I look back and cannot believe all the things God not only brought me through, but protected me from.
Young ones: don't go the paths I went on... stay on the nice ones God made for you, the straight ones, not the ones that are so tempting...
those days in the band were not the most sin-filled days, just very fun ones, and I don't regret one moment of singing except that the music did not honor Christ.
Now, I have all that poise I gained from singing before audiences of strangers, and nothing makes me embarrassed or worried when we get up there to sing for God... it is so cool. All things work together for good for those who love GOd and are called according to His purposes.
Miss Kitty, I used to say, Lordy, Lordy, feel like I'm 40 and now I wish I felt that good, LOL!
I started to get grey at 20 and my mom was totally grey at 28... I didn't go grey gracefully though, it is an unflattering shade which is what causes me to spend time, money and tears trying to regain the color of my youth, which disappeared at about age 28 and started to become the color you find in a baby's diaper.
Any other strawberry blondes lose their color that way? All the pretty red tones left and I had dishwater red, if you can imagine such a thing, not a pretty sight, streaked with sort of dull not shiny gray (ugh)... so of course it was off to the bottle for me and will probably always be.
I'll be like Lucille Ball - 87 years old with obviously fake haircolor - so be it. I'm the type, LOL.
So far I pretty much have decided to live with this color. My hubby actually likes it and so does my friend Sharon. It is very cartoonish bright yellow with orange streaks like Morris or Garfield but if DH likes it that is really all that matters to me. His mom saw it yesterday at the hospital and she didn't say anything... and nobody has given me any strange looks out in the world so I think it might be working...
So thanks for all your input... this has been a fun thread...!! Who knew it would be a place where I'd be revealing a part of my life as a singer in a band??!
Janie, I used that New Demension hair color a few months ago and got some startling results too. It came out the brassiest carrot orange you can imagine. Like your DH, mine liked it after we all got over the shock. And I'm 61. Our 36 year old son asked me if I had intended my hair to turn that color. NO, NOT REALLY! I usually use Nice n' Easy. It always took 35 minutes or so to get the results I wanted instead of the 20 the instructions said so I left the ND on for 25 minutes instead of the recommended 10 minutes. I've decided to just my hair go back to its natural grey/dirty blonde with coppery highlights color. But I have noticed that it has much less body now than when I kept it colored.
I think it is a fun color Janie. Go with it.
I have NEVER colored my hair with a permanent dye. The only thing I really have ever done as far as coloring is I put "Sun in" in one time and my hair turned ORANGE for almost a year. Gad I was glad to get that grown out and I have never been tempted to try any other products.
Can we say CHICKEN? lol That's me.
What did I do? Kill another thread? I don't mean to...
Everyone was busy with the Super Bowl today, Pond. BTW, hmmmmm, you know who won....:)
I just found out who won. My dear Auntie will be happy since she lives in Salem MA.
Janie, you need to come see me for a break and I can spray paint your hair pink or purple or any other color we can find. In fact we could change colors daily. LOL
I tried going blonde once, I repeat, once. LOL It turned out very brassy and I found I looked horrid that way anyway. I like the plain ole medium brown best. Janie I think you look great although I do love the look on your face too. teehee
You all know, that there ARE people who do this professionally?
Janie, what you need is someone good who can put in some foils of bleach for blonde highlights (not brass) and then color around them (the rest of your hair) in a darker color. You would get a nice dimensional look, and only process your hair once.
If I lived closer, we'd have to do a makeover...
yeah..i know there are people who do it professionally
but i think it's more fun to do it myself.. and i dont feel as bad about it when it doesnt come out how i wanted it because it only costs a few bucks to do it myself, and hair grows back anyway..
as opposed to getting it done professionally and paying someone like $100 to get your hair professionally screwed up lol
:)
Kim
I swear that sometime I am going to fly to NJ to have John give me a makeover. I NEED ONE. Especially if he can give me a new slim body? Maybe just put a whole new woman into me? Now that would be a MIRACLE.
lol
oh me too!
i could use a makeover..and a new slim body too :)
hehe
Kim
me three!!
I'm like Miss Kitty... I've spent the $100 bucks only to be sad or disappointed. I've been YEARS trying to get the gold back into my hair because a hairdresser mistakenly thought I didn't want gold highlights (a natural redhead wanting ash tones? hello??)... and once they are gone, they are gone - wash out in a couple shampoos.
My DH says I can spend the money, too but I feel guilty about it when I am certain if I just had a good friend who would help me like I help others, I could have what I want - which is exactly what you describe, John.
I think I'll start surfing for plane tickets to NJ. Let's see... one from LA, one from ID and one from OH.... and when we go home we'll all be streaked, slim and GORGEOUS!
Well, I'm proud to say I've never put even so much as a rinse in my hair. I'm almost 47 and my hair is so healthy and beyond my waist. My hairdresser always tells me she has never seen such healthy hair. I have very thick hair too. I feel like I have been blessed and I take care of it. The gray is coming on, but I feel like the gray hairs are trophies for having gotten through life's hard moments. My mother has colored her hair for as long as I've known her, I think.. and I keep telling her she needs to let it be natural. Love the gray!!! Kathy
I found my first white hair at 21 years of age........now I'm a Silver Fox!! Earned every one of them, too. Kind of like a badge of honor. Hey, I had my "Hay Day", now that I accept myself for myself, much happier.
"eyes"
We need a DG makeover roundup...
yes... a DG makeover RU sounds good to me!
lol
hrm..
but where would we have it?
Kim
Ah, I can see it now...We'll have a spa set up at the next roundup, where technicians will scrub the dirt from beneath our fingernails, pumice our calloused feet, and give us massages. This sounds soooo good!
Well, we've had so much rain here at the farm, that we can do mud packs on anyone and everyone that wants to join in. We have the big pond that will be warm come summertime. Of course, we'll have to share it with the biggest bullfrogs this side of the Mississippi....and when we are done we can make margaritas (non-alcoholic of course) in my outdoors kitchen and lounge on blankets on the lawn and watch Ralph plant and farm, plant and farm....don't you think that sounds like fun? :) Kathy
I think we should have a DG makeover roundup in Pardancanda's yard. That way we could get starts of all his plants AND our hair done nicely. I am sure we could find good people to do the spa treatment for all of us when we move over to MistyMeadows farm. We could all have great times playing in all her flower beds too. Just a snip here and a clip there and a dig here and all of us could go home with TONS of new plants.
Yup, John, here we come! Get ready MistyMeadows you are next!
(Of course I have first dibs on the daylilies, hardy hibiscus, pardancanda lilies, and hosta for arranging this event.)
Well Pond, you won't find any flowers here, but you could eat some raw broccoli or grab a carrot or maybe even the sweet peas....heck, you never know....I might decide to plant some flowers now, just for you guys....Kathy :)
We could put sliced cucumbers over our baggy eyes.
Lol, GW! Janie, I like your color! I have the same and though I've been called a floozy, I still have it! It will grow fast and then you might be looking back and wanting it again? Don't bother to change it ~ just have fun :)
Ponditis, you've already made a LIST of plants!!! Good grief...you'll be doing more snipping than I will!!
It is a shame that there are some hairstylists so incompetent that it keeps people from ever trying one again for a lifetime!
Just find someone whose hair looks great (someone who has a similar texture and style to yours) and find out WHO does it (not WHERE they go).
And when you need a lift, washing that grey out of your hair can work wonders... or maybe just a few foils around the face, yeah, that's the ticket...
