Iced In?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Yowsah, some of you sure have a lot of snow! The sun, together with the salt we'd scattered yesterday, melted the walkways pretty well.

B-b-b-b-b-rrrrrnie, I would not want to be in your shoes, as much as I like Garrison Keillor and would like to hear him live!

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

It's -18º now. Alexandria, MN had high today of -24º, and thats only half way to northern MN.
We will endure!
At least it's to cold for the wind to blow!
Bernie

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Boy, Keillor's got you enduring popsicles pegged, doesn't he?

Here's some good reading for all suffering the ravages of Old Man Winter: http://www.prairiehome.org/performances/20001007/MN_safety_council.htm

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Lastnight it was a balmy 30 degrees and then it rained for a while then everything had a half inch of Ice on it and the idiots on the free way managed twelve wrecks one was seven cars. Slippery go figure. At least this morning at 5.00 the temp was 44 with a nice south wind melting all the ice.

Kelli even you had frost? Wow they must have declared Marshall law . I can see the headlines now severe cold front idles entire southern Calif. Residents are urged to sign up for cold weather reliefe LOL.

Hey I whine when the temp gets over 65 or seventy and hibernate at 80. Ernie

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Our son got stuck in the slushy driveway twice today and I got stuck there twice myself. We are hoping that it will rain enough tonight to melt all the snow in the driveway so we can get my DH to work in the morning.

Ernie, I too don't like the really hot weather. Give me cooler weather when I need to work outside and then heat it up when I am in with the air conditioning.

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

Eweed, we get frost on the roof a dozen or two dozen times a year. It's no biggie. It's not enough to kill anything.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Kelli Oh I know just got hit by a silly moment, Frost and freezes are regular happening here. Enjoy the warm Ernie

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, it's snowing here again. Our "brief dusting" has turned into 1.5 inches of snow so far. They have called off school for tomorrow. They did have school today though.

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Stupid Weather forecast! Has anybody in the SC Upstate area seen the stupid weather forecast for Monday?! I'm ready to call some other states NOW and start asking for road cleaning assistance.

Weather.com and accuweather.com are both predicting freezing rain Monday and Monday night. Darnit!

I want Spring! I want Spring! If I can't have spring, I at least want Snow! No more freezing rain! No more sleet! No more ice! *waaaaaah*

Okay :) I'm done whining now ... anyone with a bag of rock salt and some patience that wants to help me pre-salt the roads Monday morning is welcome to come along. :)
Thanks,
Jennifer

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

I'm with you, Jennifer! I CANNOT believe we are due for MORE ICE.
Although I'm not in the Upstate, I'm only about 1-1/2 hours away from Greenville and our forecast is the same. Pooh.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

The boys had 3 days of school in a row off from that darn storm! We have huge piles of snow from cleaning the driveway-over n over! But its to darn cold to let them go out and play its -15 right now! The blowing and drifting was awlful!

**SIGH**

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Normally, I can deal with bad weather like this, since I am retired... I usually just wait it out. However, this round is intefering with my scheduled move to a new location, and the deadline for the closing on this house. It's certainly a TRIAL!

I guess I should not compalin, as many of you have it worse. Plus, so many people have died from these storms this year. Usually it's the idiot who thinks going to work is more important than life, and takes someone else out with him.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

My kids are home again today. My hubby is home today too. More snow last night means white icy roads today. It is at least almost February isn't it?? LOL

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Darius, hope all works out okay for you in making your new move. Are you going far. You people in the East have sure had a hard time.

At least here it is finally warming, today was a virtual heatwave, it is now 41.4 degrees and the snow is melting. Donna

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

We got about 3" yesterday through last night; it was very light, crystally snow. Ohhhhh, it's cold here...

GW, it is 0 here right now. And it is cold, bitter cold. I went to the supermarket tonight and thought it was cold in there, until I walked back outside....brrrrrr.

We had an inch of snow last night and because it is so cold the roads can't be cleared correctly and they are terrible. My DH chauffeurs me around now, so I don't worry, he's a good driver, but my girls are out on a night on the town. :0 Kathy

Yeah, still COLD here, too... but NOT THAT COLD!

I figure I can wait until it gets to 32º (noonish) and then pack my pickup for another load to Hayesville and still be back home by dark-30. It won't get much above freezing but at least I shouldn't freeze while loading stuff.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, the pipes are unthawed now. It seems last night after I did the dinner dishes, the pipes froze and stayed that way all night long. When DH went to make his coffee this morning, there was ice in the lines. I hate when that happens. LOL All's well that ends well? Kathy

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Wow, we've been fortunate in that our pipes have not frozen. That's gotta be the pits! Did any of you get this in your e-mail?

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Do you think AAA will help them ?

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Gad and I thought I had problems with pipes freezing! I wouldn't want to find my garage looking like that!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Gee, I feel better. I forgot that I don't have a garage so I won't ever find my garage like that.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

They are probably house shopping! Let somebody else fix the mess. Rich don't have values like us "poor" folk.
Bernie

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Country you may be right about the value part but what I see is deminished brain use or lack of all togeather.

25 years ago some farmer up the road made a cheap housing development. City people flocked to it and life was good.

Then came a real winter and a real Northeaster the power went out for four days and the city folk could not take care of them selves they abandoned their homes without turning off their water and draining their pipes.

Thousands of dollars of damage needlessly a lot of those folks felt oh well thats what we pay insurance for. go figure. Ernie

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Here's a no-brainer. Good deal of snow around here this morning. Local news shows out of the Twin Cities show all the traffic jams, cars moving very slowly. Two things happen, not many fender benders,(driving slow! Da!). Complaining about unplowed roads, Guess what? the snowplows are in the same traffic as the slow moving cars. I'm sure it is the stupid news people that figure all this out.
That iced up garage probably belonged to one of them!
Somebody couldn't find this forum, you have to post on them to keep them to the top.
Bernie

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

WOW, if I saw my garage looking like that, I'd flip my lid.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

So Darius, do you have any snow? Don't suppose YOU are going to build any snow men/structures? If yes, let me know and I'll get DH to drive me over to Asheville. I would want to see what you came up with. (I am sure that I would be laughing so hard that driving myself would be dangerous) LOL

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

LOL, Nat! I'm sure I could come up with a fun snow sculpture... IF we had any snow. We mostly had ice.

Much of the ice is gone or going with the heavy rain today, and we have water in the basement again. I got most of the basement packed up yesterday, with hired helpers and now it's all sitting in 2" of water.

The only good news is that it's still from some of the drilled holes in the floor that were under shelving that I coeldn't get to before and patch. And like a dummy, I never thought to patch them yesterday.

Ain't hindsight wonderful?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Gee darius, you must feel like you're living on a rollercoaster - - - good news, bad news, good news, bad news........

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Darius, I love it and printed it before it was pulled, although if its still here, Dave might see the humor in it too. What a talented person! And after this winter, maybe Dave will cut us some slack. I am not offended by it at all and do agree with the sentiments!!! K

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

*Snicker* - I like that, Darius. Best I ever did was make a snow chicken one year. That's some great sculpture!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Sorry y'all - I'm not Dave but I figured I'd pull it before he did ;o) All I can say is it takes a lotta snow and cold weather to make a sculpture like that. Not to mention talent.

Mistymeadows, I did have to chuckle at your reference to "unthawed" pipes. That's a southernism if ever there was one. My MIL routinely unthaws chicken, beef, hamburger, etc. for dinner...

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Terry, I don't hear so much about it anymore but my wife and friends still look at each other and shake their heads back and forth when they hear me grumble about "Dagnabbit, I can't get this bolt unloosened!" :>)

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

The ice, snow and constant precipitation here are now going to provide us with the following: (1/2 mile from our house)

The Monocacy River Near Frederick At 3 PM Friday Was 7.9 Feet And Rising. Flood Stage Is 15.0 Feet. Forecast To Rise Above Flood Stage By Saturday Morning And Continue To Rise To Between 15 And 16 Feet By Early Saturday Afternoon. The River Is Expected To Fall Below Flood Stage By Early Sunday Morning. At 15.0 Feet Water Begins To Inundate The Sewage Treatment Plant.

What a lovely 'sediment' :)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Ewwwww....

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Yep Dea, drove those routes today between Hagerstown and Frederick, what a mess. Pretty bad when you are driving up the mountain and water is pooling 3" underneath your vehicle on the way UP the mt. Another problem was all the ice on all those trees, there were a lot of them down and fortunately none on my vehicle!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, I have a picture of it LOL....Terry, I understand completely.

I CANNOT believe I said that (unthawed). Should have said thawed out. I am not even from the South, although I've lived here for 17 years. I am a New Englander, I don't think they refer to it as unthawed...that would still be frozen LOL. Oh my goodness, I AM SOUTHERN....My English teacher and my college English teacher would be chastising me right now....Blush, blush.... I was thinking thawed and undone at the same time, yea, that's the ticket.....Oh my...:) Kathy

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

But, but..but...I understood you perfectly Kathy! You've finally become Southernized!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Is that what it is Shoe? Well, it's not all that bad to be Southernized then. I guess I should be a sayin, "I'ma pertty proud of it...!!1" Did I go too far south? LOL
