Tacoma Stans

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

HI Dave;

A while back you helped me to ID this tree. Do you have any idea, from seed, how long it will take to bloom? In a container in Canada. (BTW I finally did get some seeds before the squirrels ate them)
Thanks,
Molly

Is tacoma stans a tree? I thought it was a shrub...here it grows as a shrub...and I think it needs warm weather to bloom...and maybe within a year or so....

I've never grown them from seed, but I have purchased plants that were very small. I had one plant bloom at about 18 inches last year (I'm guessing it was a year old when I bought it, so it bloomed the second year).

I hope that helps you!

best,
dave

Yes, Dave, it helps alot, thanks much.

Yes Chamma, the seeds I have came off the tree in my neighbors yard. One of our DG friends wants to grow one in a container.

Molly, I started seeds in about late Feb. last year and put them into the garden in May. They all bloomed well last summer. I even dug one up to save the seed when it matured and have some started for this summer. I think if you get that seed started, you will see lots of bloom. Have you ever started the seed before? Email me if you need any help.

Tropicman, do you ever have seeds on your Tacoma stans. I have never seen that plant-shrub. Sure has pretty blooms and I would love to try to start one from seed if I can locate the seeds. Donna

Lil and ruth,will try to save more of them next year,they look alot like a small version of purple hull beans when the seeds get ripe.
