hhmm I have a lavender Im not sure wcih species but I kept it inside last year and it got leggy as all get out and didnt smell right, this year I left it outside in the pot and its still doing great. I thought for sure it would die butit seems to need the colder climate for winter. This one has silvery leaves on it and as far as I know it isnt the english lavender.

Ours are kept in the cool greenhouse over winter, if you don't have a greenhouse a small cold frame is fairly easy to rig up in a sheltered area. Light is very important to these plants so ensure they aren't in shade.

I take cuttings of mine - well, I did this year. The Lavender dentata rooted readily and I've now taken a cutting off the cutting and am rooting it. I didn't get the Lavender steochas - it drowned before I had a chance to do anything with it. I've also got some English lavender cuttings (Hidcote and Munstead) that I took during our New Year's thaw. They are still looking quite healthy, although it is nowhere near long enough to tell if they will root.

Don't be afraid to trim your leggy lavender back - and try some cuttings with the trimmings.
