I received a beautiful pot of tulips for Mother's Day last month. They're done blooming now. When should I plant the bulbs? What should I do with them in the meantime? Somebody, please advise. Thanks. GL.
Tulip question
I would go ahead and plant them GL.Probably somewhere that won't cook them.Keep them watered but not wet.
Lots of times gift bulbs are done for when you recieve them.
I would give them a couplw of seasons to recover and see what happens.
Wait till the tulip foilage has completely died and gone brown, before you remove the foilage, or your tulip bulbs will not have any 'food' for next year.
My sister lives in Australia and said she has to put her tulip bulbs in the refrigerator for 3 months (would be for you Dec to end of Feb) then she pots them up again. Australia has warm winters so I assume you in TN also have warm winters, you might have to store them in the fridge for blooms next year?
when you plant any bulbs just sprinkle alittle Kitty litter to mark where your bulbs are planted. That way it will be easy to see and won't disturb the bulbs if you should happen to any digging.
Just a suggestion.
or put in a golf tee to mark the spot - if you can keep the kids from pulling them out and asking what they're there for, they make wonderfully inconspicuous bulb markers. I made the mistake of using an orange one last year - Jessie's favorite color is orange. We replaced that one about a dozen times!
