Well its winter, growing topicals here make it somewhat a wonderland,so to speak!LOL
In the 60's today, even under a heavy cloud cover, when just 3 weeks ago 10 inches of snow where on the ground, and there is still cracks in the ground from being so dry,so here I am
watering like it was summer on the 2nd of january!!!!
Watering in a winter wonderland
Same here Tman,I have a Bald Cypress,I try to keep watered, are you keeping Cannas mulched under the straw?
Root.
Hey root,
Naw I dug them up and have them in those clear storage boxes filled with peatmoss in the garage, what I'm trying for the first time here,is to keep the soil warm and moist, and un frozen hoping to keep the worms and other critters working the soil for me.I tried something similar last year using Christmas tree mulching, and it worked to some extinct, was able to get my cannas in the ground the last 2 weeks of march, and had them flowering early in may.One of the guys I work with is a farmer and I asked him If I could get a couple bales of straw from him, well he drove up in front of the house in this big 2 ton truck with these huge round bales!LOL!900lbs a piece,20 square bales to 1 round bale, had to use my truck to move them around, that was a site to see!!!LOL Had to rope them and pull them around to get them where I wanted them, what a job that was,and to top that off only way to remove the straw from the bales is to roll it,thats another story in itself!!LOL!
Tropicman, that's a funny story about getting 2 bales of hay that turned out to be the huge round bales, LOL!
I actually watered some things in the garden yesterday, too. Hard to believe how warm it was high up here in the mountains on a January winter day.
I lived in Wichita for a year and I still remember the nasty cold and icy winter storms... and the dry, hard cracked dirt in August.
Darius,Hmm,so you moved from the prairies to the mountains, now next to the valleys!!LOL!Had me going there!LOL!Yep those big ole wide cracks in the ground everywhere makes you think we had a earthquake here!
