i am so mad

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Maybe there could be a mini-roundup at Janet's to help out! :)

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I wonder if janet gets it cleaned up, which to me is no businnes of her neighbors. If we could send out a petition to alot of us and her friends on her character for the courts. Or if they even care about that. We are in bankruptsy but I know If you have to pay the court I will send you $10.00 to help. It is not much but I know Jesus can multiply it. LMK Sandy

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

I'll match it, Sandy. But I think what she really needs is the manpower to get the cleaning done, then steady help to keep it cleaned up. Keeping a place cleaned up is the hardest part. At least for me it is. This does sound like a good project for some scout troops. Or maybe an organization that needs a public service project.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

all of you are so kind and thoughtful. just being able to talk to you and have yo all listen is so much help. we have secured a friends forklift for heavy lifting and a wrecker to move the junk cars out. my fear is that the judge said even if cleaned up we will still have to pay that 1100.00 fine. we have started this month paying it 100.00 a month but when we live on less than 1100.00 a month with 2 teenage girls that 100.00 really hurts. just seems like there has been so much stress in ourlives for the pass 3 years that sometimes i just feel like giving up trying. let whatever will be be but i know i can not do this. i must keep marching on. i really appreciate the offer of the money i do not want anyone to think that i a asking for monetary help because that could bring on some hard feelings here as i know it has done with other members before. all your prayers and listenuing mean more to me than you will ever know. i love you all.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

You know, Janet, if someone wants to help financially, it really is no one elses' business! It is up to the ones giving and the ones recieving to decide if it is right.

I'm glad you are getting the equipment to move the heavy items. I suggest that you and your family make a rule of devoting at least an hour each every day to cleaning some area of the property. At least this will help prevent future problems and show the court that you are trying. Teenage girls may not like this activity but I'm sure they don't like doing without the fine money every month either. And since it is their home, they should help to maintain it. I'm not saying they don't help you, but obviously more help is needed. And just don't bring home any more items that could easily be considered junk. Keep everything in contained areas.

We will keep that nosey, complaining neighbor in our prayers. It sounds as tho he is a really miserable person. By the way, does he perhaps reap a benefit from the fine? Like maybe he gets some of it? Just a thought.

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

I've been watching this thread and I'm happy to read that there is someone who is helping you get everything removed. I would take pictures, before and after, and bring them to court so the judge can personally see everything has been taken care of. You could ask the judge if he/she will consider waiving or suspending the fine if you prove you have obeyed the covenants for a designated period of time that is up to his/her descretion.
If you feel that the judge won't even consider the idea concerning the fine, you may want to consider calling legal aid again and ask what the legal requirements are to be qualified financially indigent by the court. You'll still have to clean up the yard, but you may find some financial relief concerning the fines levied against you.
We once had a kind and wonderful elderly couple as neighbors, and a neighbor from up the road wasn't happy with their yard either. This neighbor didn't contact them or the county, but called their homeowners insurance company instead. They had 30 days to clean up their yard or their policy would have been cancelled. Five families got together, had a bbq, cleaned up their yard, and it was later on when we found out it was the neighbor up the road who started the trouble in the first place. Well guess who decided to sell their home six months later and was having an open house? Yep, the underhanded neighbor.
We were a close knit group and the Sunday during his open house we all had "somehow" planned outdoor activities between 1-4 that afternoon after reading the ad in the newspaper. There was skeet shooting, potato guns, chain saws, and circular saws all going at the same time. The neighbor came down the road yelling at us to stop, but there wasn't a thing he could do about it because we were not breaking any laws.
Ma and Pop still live happily in their home, and although a few of us have moved they haven't had any problems since then.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

That's a riot, Carol!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

I love that Carol!!! What goes around comes around and if more people in this world would realize that, maybe we'd have a nicer place to live. :)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Wow Carol! That's justice & kharma and neighborly support all wrapped up in one!

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

my girls help us with everything we ask them to. i have great kids. it is just tso much to do but good lord willing we will make it. i thank you all so much for your support.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

carol legal aid said they do not handle this type of case not that we are not quailified

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

whats a potato gun?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Go figure, I tried years ago to get legal aid for enforcing child support. I was told they couldn't do that. (this was prior to 1975. Since they don't give legal aid for civil matters, evidently the only people who qualify for legal aid are criminals. This stinks!

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

Janet, I'm so sorry that legal aid wouldn't give you any help - I would had thought that they would have at least been able to provide you some advice over the phone instead of completely shutting the door. Do you have any local lawyers that have a free consultation fee or one for $25? I know that $25 can be alot of money when you don't have it and you wouldn't have any guarantees concerning the fines, but it may be something to consider.

Kikisdad, the potato guns I am familiar with are made of pvc, use compressed air and have a release valve. You also musket load the potato. Some folks have made a pump action on theirs while others use a bicycle pump for air compression. They can shoot a potato several hundred yards over the trees and you definitely need to wear hearing protection - I was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time and found this out personally. ;o)

Thanks for all of the positive comments about our close-knit neighborhood. I really miss living there and one of my former neighbors who moved out of state said she would do almost anything to be back there again. I have great neighbors now, but I miss the true sense of community we had there.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Janet, hows everything coming along? Any luck with legal help? Did you ask legal aid who handles your problem when they obviously dont? If you have any place you can donate those old cars to they usually pick them up at no charge to you, plus it can give you a small tax write off, that way you dont have to worry about picking them up. Most charities for people and animals will do this.
I feel so bad when someone could use help that I can give, like muscles and time and no fear of getting dirty. I would be there in a heartbeat if I could.
I second the picture idea and any paperwork on your disabilaties and income, and letters from friends and family can be a big help too if the judge will read them. Just go in there and be respectful the whole time, I know that can make a major difference.
Keeping you in my prayers that things start to go your way very very soon.
Janet

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Carol, our grandson made one of those compressed air guns last summer. He did a great job of spraying our dwarf fruit trees with funguscide and insectacide. One or 2 blasts did it for each tree. He also had a ball shooting black walnuts. Hit a few hawks accidentially, but they apparently survived.
Janet, I still need your mailing address. It won't be until after the first of the month before I send it but I will send it.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

well we have started to make a dent. we have removed two junk trucks and the 3rd one is going tomorrow. no help with legal things. with my oldest daughter on her trip, which i never would have stopped her no matter howw much help we needed, it will slow us down a little. thank you all for your prayers

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

well here we are only 24 days to court time and no where near thru. with mil's illness dh has been spending most of his time at her side. he time is running out fast. i hope the judge will take this into consideration. keep us in your prayers

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

You bet, Janet. You're in our daily prayers. We're praying the judge will be lenient considering the circumstances. It might help if you bring in some sort of documentation regarding your MIL so he doesn't just think you're making it up.

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

Praying for you Janet. You remind me of me - never a dull moment. Some of us lead peaceful lives and some of us lead very exciting lives. Hmfph!

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

well today i feel like i made progress. uncle james and i loaded and hauled off 3 truck loads ourselves. boy am i tired and so is he but we were proud to get it done.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Janet, I wish all of us here at DG could go to your place and help you clean up. It would be done in a short time with all of us. :( Sorry most are so far away. If thoughts and prayers could move more than mountains, we would. Keep up the faith. Kathy :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Boy, bet you guys sleep well tonight! Praying that's the case, anyway. :)

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

i slept so hard that we overslept getting my youngest up for school. we hauled out another load today in between rain showers.

i want you all to know that just being here is more support than you will ever know. i love you all.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

leaflady,
well said! it is no ones business if some one wants to help out financially. My offer of 10.00 still stands. Not because I think you are asking, because I think you are asking, but because you are not. I want to. I am disabled and it is hard to make ends meet. I know what that is like or just want to do something in my yard DH keeps putting off. So many helped us when DH lost his job 10 years ago and when I ask how do you accept this from others and I was told if I did not accept what oters were giving I was stealing their blessing.
My offer still holds. I love you and want great things for you just has Jesus has made a way for it you will hold tight and keep that close walk with the Lord.
Love.
Sandy

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

thaks sandy. paying that payment of $100 a month really hurts. at this rate it will take over a year to pay it off. when we go to court i am going to ask her to please lower the payment. i will take proof of income and all with me.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

thanks sandy. paying that payment of $100 a month really hurts. at this rate it will take over a year to pay it off. when we go to court i am going to ask her to please lower the payment. i will take proof of income and all with me.

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Janet, Perhaps if it is cleaned up by the time you go to court, the judge will reduce or do away with the fine. That would be God's Work at its finest...I will pray about that for you. God Bless, Kathy

Albany (again), NY(Zone 5b)

Janet - Like Kathy said, if everything's clean by the time you go to court maybe the fine can reduced or eliminated.

Maybe you can also bring photos of how much improved the yard looks and write down a list itemizing what you did, that you made a huge effort. That along with proof of income might make a difference.

Sending my best wishes that this situation resolves itself into the best solution possible. Good luck!

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

well 1 wk befopre court. we have made some headway but no where near finish. i hope the judge is in a better mood than last time. keep those prayers going!

Lincoln City, OR(Zone 9a)

Janet I am praying a lot for you. I sure wish I lived closer because I would come with my pickup and flatbed trailer to help you. I hope you have pictures of before and after, what else you are planning on doing, and proof of income and such that has been recommended to you. Even if the judge doesn't look at them just having them with you may help your case. Good Luck.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

court in 7 hours and i am up with an upset stomach. nerves i am sure. i will be so glad when this is over.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Janet, (((((((((((((((((((major hugs))))))))))))))))!!!!!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hey, guess who else is up (big surprise!). Praying for court to go well and for the judge to be lenient after seeing the effort you guys have made. Bring your documentation and drip sweetness. We're pulling for you! :)

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Crossing fingers toes and, well lets just say Im praying alot for you today. Big hugs.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Good luck!

Another thought. See if your county has this available to you. Our county will bring one of those big garbage bins to your property and leave it for a month, then pick it up. If you fill it up before the 30 days are up, they'll come get it and bring another one.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

praying for you Janet!

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, Janet... Praying for you here.

Oh Dear God be with our friend and make that judge be wise and gentle with them and make sense of all this.

Amen

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Has anyone heard from Janet yet?

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

It might still be too early and they arnt out of court yet. Im hoping they stopped for a celebration lunch.
