Polygonum cuspidatum

The local rag on Saturdays is something to look forward to with it's gardening articles. Today a good article about Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum). I have never seen this nasty 'thing'; unfortunately many have. Hope this helps understanding one of our worst enemies of the garden.

We have that all over our creek banks here. In the late fall, I cut branches and strip the leaves. The dried fruits make a lovely display in a tall vase.

I must have seen it in the woods and on the creek banks. Just can't put the two together.

Wow! That P. 'Crimson Beauty' is a big one. Not sure I would want to take the chance of it not running.

golddog... the flowers and fruits are very small and white until fall, making this plant pretty inconspicuous.

Thanks darius!, Good plant to study up on this winter. I've got a place where nothing, I mean nothing, will grow. Well, maybe I hadn't. I put stone there, and it looks alright.

Sandy Feather, does write well; most of her thoughts are first hand. I have had her for a few classes at Phipps; really knows her stuff. She works for the state.
