Minnesota seems to be winning! Humphries will be an all-american.
Why is Mich St. ranked so high with all those losses? Oh, I forgot, it's one of those teams with a "famous" coach.
Bernie
College Basketball Season!!
I don't take much stock in all the early season rankings Bernie, however, it is nice to see a No. 1 following the University of Kentucky Wildcats!
TC...
TC, you are right. The season now begins!!!
Pitt 63
Florida State 56
Florida a much improved team. Although it may not show much in the ACC.
Pitt up to it's old tricks by missing a lot of free throws like last year.
I'm ready for March madness already. I was looking on the website of Georgia and they had links to the schools that they play and Ga. lost to Winthrop and Ky beat them bad.
Minnesota comes off of finals break to streak by Du----
by 6 in overtime.
Can't watch the game here. There is a new sports network out of Twin Cities that carries it, but so far sattelite hasn't picked it up, BUMMER.
Watched part of Iowa & Texas-Tech on ESPN & kept track of the score on bottom line. MN was behind until end in overtime. Shows a will to win.
Glad to see somebody besides Duke in #1. Go Kentucky!
Bernie
Pitt was way too much for Georgia. By 21 points. Georgia has gone through some problems recently, and have a new coach. I believe Georgia is on some kind of probation.
Pitt is big and tough inside. They haven't played anybody yet, but it is obvious, they are on track. U Conn is definitely the pick for the Big East; Syracuse and Pitt next?
We are lucky to have ESPN showing so many Big East games.
A lot of very good teams; how many will get better?
ESPN does show a lot of Big East games golddog.
Kentucky's next game is Jan. 3 (Sat.)against North Carolina on CBS. They're playin at home and game time is noon.
TC...
Hi TC, will definitely watch the game. Neither team has shied away from from a difficult schedule. Especially KU.
ESPN signed a contract with the Big East some time ago. I think Monday nights.
Dog, I like Pitt a lot, they play some tough ball. I've saw them against KY several times and when they played, the Panthers were clawin every bit as hard as the Cats!
My brother saw that KY vs Louisville game and he told me the Cats just appeared to give up in the second half. Sometimes a loss will ignite a spark so I'm expectin a good game outta the Cats against NC!
TC...
If the coaches knew why a team is on fire one night, and another night, a bit off. They would bottle it and make a bundle with it.
LOL Dog! GO CATS!
TC...
MN girls win again! one of four unbeatens left.
Lindsy gets #2000 with 500 assists. Up there with the elite.
Watch for MN in March!
MN men couldn't get it done again.
Bernie
The Cats gave me a little scare against NC!
TC...
I gotta vote for Syracuse........
All the schools around here had to change their name's because of the Native Americans,SU is now the Orange Men,
Duh,they don't grow oranges around here(I do but I don't count)
What about them Terps???? Totally awesome in football...and hopefully basketball too!!! Since Juan Dixon graduated and moved onto pro-ball (Wizards), the Univ. of Maryland will have it's work cut out for them! Time will tell!!
I just seen this thread. There is no other team than the Ohio State Buckeyes. There 8 and 4 so far but there is always hope.
An interesting match up Saturday (TV) is Stanford and Arizona. Both in the top 10; both in the PAC 10.
I'm leavin for KY Wednesday y'all. I'll try and check my thread here out from a puter down there. If y'all don't see me posting, it don't mean I ain't forgot about it...
Go Cats!!
TC...
I guess I better watch the Stanford/Arizona game, since our oldest son is going to Stanford for his Masters. I didn't even realize that they are in the top 10! Brains and athletic ability....what an awesome combination!!
Stanford is a rarity in today's sports, having many top teams competing in NCAA playoffs. The coaches are fortunate because they only have to tell the players once.
Many of their facilities are in the ground. Basketball, football, water polo, baseball, etc. Must be the threat of earthquakes.
A wonderful campus. I ran there a lot, and even used the facilities (they thought I was a professor - LOL) where I had a locker.
With a son coming from Stanford, you can be very proud. Employment won't be a problem.
Yes, I realize that Stanford and sports are not usually mentioned in the same breath! The coaches do have it easy. No Stanford player will ever be on academic suspension!
We did visit Stanford's campus last summer. Very beautiful and lovely Mexican/Spanish architecture. Plus, we loved the use of courtyards with very colorful flowers adorning their fountains of water.
You're correct that employment has not been an issue for him. In fact, his employer (Lockheed Martin), pays for his tuition, since it is directly related to his job. He has really been blessed and we are extremely proud of him!!!
TC, I've told you before I'm not much of a sports fan....so you might get a kick out of this. You know my last name is Packard and my husband's name is Ralph. When we first moved here, everywhere I went and people would ask our names, they would say "The Ralph Hacker?" or "You're married to Ralph Hacker?" I thought they were all out of their minds until one day I HEARD Ralph Hacker on the radio. Oh and Mel, my daughter's last name now is Ledford....hmmm, wonder if they're related :)
:) Kathy
That's a hoot Kathy! What a funny story, I'm gigglin all over myself! ;~)
Looks like I'll be watchin the Cats claw up on Vandy in my homestate on Saturday!! Probably sittin around with my brother drinkin cold Ski's and munchin down some KFC!!
(Ski is a "mountain dewish" non-alcoholic beverage, in case yer wonderin, I cain't get it up here)
TC...
What time should I get there TC. Sounds like fun. I'll be watching football this weekend. Basketball is just one of those things that fills the void of football after the Superbowl.
I've never heard of Ski here TC. I thought about you when my son told me the final score for the Cats/Cards game. I'd like to send my sympathy to you. :( :) :) tee hee oops, sorry. Not a good sport am I? LOL
The only reference I have for Ski is that country song that talks about a slaw burger and a bottle of Ski. I did try a slaw burger if it is what I think it is. Sloppy Joes with cloe slaw on it. It's pretty good.
Hey Howie you know about slaw burgers!! That's cooler than a night breeze in autumn! The song you mentioned with slaw burgers was done by a group called "The Kentucky Headhunters" who actually used to eat at a little ol restaurant that still exists down in Greensburg, where we'll be this weekend (we'll be in Greensburg, not at that restaurant)The restaurant served slaw burgers, of course, and that song kind of put the restaurant on the map of famous KY eateries. I forget the name of the restaurant but will see it when we go down. They're most famous for their excellant chile, I ate there a time or two many years ago.
http://www.kentuckyheadhunters.com/
The link will take you to the Headhunter's website. I met all those guys a very long time ago when they used to host a live show on a now defunct radio station out of Munfordville, WLOC was the call letters. The show was "Chittlin Time" and The Kentucky Headhunters played live in the studio. Folks from all the surrounding counties would jam into the studio to hear them, everybody would sing along, and of course we'd have "slaw burgers, fries and a bottle of Ski." And then we'd "bring it on home for my baby and me!" (I'm quoting a few lyrics from the song you've heard)
And oh, yes, there will be some excellant football on this weekend too! I'm pickin Green Bay to take the Super Bowl this year and the Cats, of course, will take the NCAA Championship!
Kathy, my sister's (y'all "met" her this past summer on here) son is a big Cards fan. I'm sure I'll get rode hard about the UK loss to them when I see him. We're stayin at my sister's place. I may have to run away to stay with my brother if he rides me to hard! ;~)
TC...
Dumas Walkers was the name of ths song and resteraunt. I love that song. I could not think of the name of the song or the group last night. Thanks for filling in the blanks.
I'm with you on green bay. I hope they can do it.
Here is the words to the whole song for those who have not heard it.
Well, Let's all go, down to Dumas Walker
Let's all go, down to Dumas Walker
We'll get a slaw, burger, fries and a bottle of Ski
Bring it on out to my baby and me.
Yeah we're headed to the drive-in on a Saturday night
Just me and my baby and a six-pack of Lite
Got a pocketful of money and I'm rarin' to go
Down to Dumas Walker right after the show
They'll be shootin marbles in the back of the store
And laying money down on the floor
Well, Let's all go, down to Dumas Walker
Let's all go, down to Dumas Walker
We'll get a slaw, burger, fries and a bottle of Ski
Bring it on out to my baby and me.
He takes all his orders down one at a time
Don't need a pad he's got a photogenic mind
He don't like the young folks hanging around
He's quick to let ya know we got a law in this town
You oughta see him grin when money walks through the door
The marble king is ready for more
Well, Let's all go, down to Dumas Walker
Let's all go, down to Dumas Walker
We'll get a slaw, burger, fries and a bottle of Ski
Bring it on out to my baby and me.

That'll be a good game Dog! My, looks like me and my bros will be watchin sports all weekend, if I can drag myself away from my granbaby, heck, I'll just keep her with us!
TC...
Will Mike Davis at Indiana finish the season? It doesn't look good.
Pac 10 Trivia: Think of the Pac 10 divided into 5 parts.
Washington-Washington State
Stanford-Cal
Oregon-Oregon State
UCLA-S. Cal
Arizona-Arizona State
Each week 1 part (2 teams) travel to play another part (2 teams). The games are played on Thursday and Saturday.
So if Oregon-Oregon State travels to the Bay Area, one will play Stanford; the other will play Cal. Then they switch for the Saturday game.
I am not sure if the teams stay in the same area for both games or not. Or if they fly back and forth between Thursday and Saturday.
Pitt is not as good as their record; Miami is better than their record.
Stanford plays so well together; Arizona doesn't have the talent of past years.
Syracuse and Connecticut are the cream of the Big East. Can't wait to see them play each other.
I still think Duke is peaking early. Duke and Wake Forest will be interesting.
Injuries, will once again, play a part for the final playoff spots.
I will be watching Pitt and Notre Dame Monday. A good defense by Notre Dame; Pitt has to stop Thomas.
