College Basketball Season!!

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Okay, now that gardening here is in hibernation I'm lookin for other like-minded college basketball die-hard fans like myself.

How about a friendly NCAA College Basketball Dave's Garden Bracket Challenge?!

Start postin yer favorite teams and I'll do the rest!
Of course we have to narrow them down as tourney time arrives! For now though I'd like to know if there's any interest.

Surely I don't have to name my team(s)!

TC...

Franklin, LA(Zone 9a)

LSU

actually, I'm not that much of a sports fan, but I'm totally surrounded by it so I may as well enjoy it. Especially in March ... =)

Cheri'

PS and I always root for Ganzaga (sp) ever since their Cinderella performance a few years back

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Minnesota
The Golden Gophers will be on top by end of year!
Look for Humphries to be All-American & probably then gone to NBA at end of season.
Bernie

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Ha! I 'Bleed Blue'...I want the UK Wildcats! (naturally)

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

Ok TC, lets see how it goes. Can I enter one of the sleepers in the crowd, say, Slippery Rock?

How many teams do we enter right now? Just make out a list? Do you want a list of 64?

Blue Wildcats? Hum? This might not go over too well in NC.:)

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

So TC are you Blue or Red? :)

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

Hey, where's the commish? Probably reading the Basketball Gazette or some like publication.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

I'm here dog!

Y'all can rant and rave about yer favorite teams, their games, their top players, any ol thang fer now!

When it's tourney time, we'll use any of the media's brackets that they always put out.

I'll think of something to give away to the winner with the best bracket prediction at the end of the season.

Just in case y'all need to know my team:

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Ah TC I knew you was blue through and through. lol Ok I guess you really are from Ky. lol Guess ya know that's my team!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

My son is U of L fan and lives in Lexington... He loves to proudly strut his RED Louisville coat! :)

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

There's a few strays in my family that kinda lean towards UofL MM, mostly in-laws ;~).

I've been with the Cats since the days of Adolph Rupp! Any of you old Cat fans will know who he was!

TC...

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Bernie, looks like the Gophers got holed up in Virginia tanite! Sorry...

Minnosota - 78
UVA - 86

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Just plain old sloppy playing! Big Ten didn't do well against the ACC.
MN will be there at the end of the season!
Bernie

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

The Blue and Gold are talented w/ some strong freshmen. 5-0 so far. Just getting it together with the 'new' coach. The coming Big East season will definitely divide the teams; U Conn is the team to beat, for sure.

Boy TC, the Rock had a rock of a time last night with YSU. They can only get better.

Edited for spelling.

Dog, I just follow NCAA division I schools.
I don't have nuttin against the "lower" divisions, but just havn't kept up with any of em. Not even SRU.

I do keep track of the Panthers, they usually have a good team. And UConn is another one to watch, as you mentioned.

I must admit to havin a soft spot for the UofL Cardinals, after all Louisville is the city of my birth.

The Cats will be on CBS Saturday at 1:30 PM takin on UCLA. This will be my first time seein what they look like this year!

TC...

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Of course I remember 'The Man in the Brown Suit'! and the radio hasn't been the same since Caywood Ledford quit broadcasting either...another KY icon.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

I hear ya Melody! ~MHRIP~
Isn't Sam Bowie callin some games now?

TC...

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

It ain't the same....

edited to say,we used to turn the sound down on the TV and listen to Caywood call the game on the radio.

Melody, we used to do the same thing!

War Eagle is going to fly high this year. Duke and Ky. are my favorites when Auburn is eliminated.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

You'll have to enlighten me on "War Eagle" Jim. ;~)
I'll be watchin the Cats clawin up on UCLA tomorrow!

TC...

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Here's the War Eagle low down.http://www.auburntigers.com/mensbasketball/page.cfm?doc_id=4437

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

I didn't know the Tigers were called War Eagles too.

TC...

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

That's the yell.

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

Boy this is getting confusing.LOL Maybe the Indians will want you to stop using the term 'War Eagles'.

Hope all your teams win today. I'll be watching Pitt play Penn State on TV at 4. Penn State has a new coach, but they just can't convince recruits to play in Happy Valley. It may be a long season in the Big 10.

Pitt has some freshmen that look good. One named Taft (6'10") keeps getting better, and will start by January. Problem with Pitt so far is with their particular switching defense, the new big men have to learn to guard the smaller opponents.

The 'season' will be starting for most leagues the 1st of the year. Then TV is more fun to watch.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Yeah the win percentage right now doesn't really mean a lot. Big schools playing little schools to get tuned up for the conference play.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Yep, I agree, non-conference games get em all riled up to do their best within conference games.

Dog, I may catch some of the Pitt game after KY womps UCLA.

TC...

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

UK - 52
UCLA - 50

To close for comfort!

TC...

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Kinda close, Who said big schools against little ones?
Gophers win today!!
I know is't a little school.
Bernie

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

Caught the end of the KY-UCLA game. How come the score was so low? Minn. supposed to be good this year. Big Ten should be exciting. Is the Big 10 on any certain night this winter?

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Here's the words to the Auburn fight song.

War...Eagle, fly down the field, Ever to conquer, never to yield.
War...Eagle fearless and true. Fight on, you Orange and Blue.
Go! Go! Go!
On to vic'try, strike up the band,
Give 'em [deleted], give 'em [deleted]
Stand up and yell, Hey! War...Eagle, win for Auburn,
Power of Dixie Land!

Here's a link to the playing of it.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Both UofL and UofK were victorious today!
Go Cats and Cards!

Edited to add that the Pitt Panthers won too!

What the heck is with Kentucky and Duke? And even U Conn.?

Are they peaking too early? Duke seems to peak early every year.

North Carolina and Wake Forest look good on TV.

Who would have thought St. Johns would fire the coach so soon? Must have been some heated debate involved for this to happen.

Is Indiana's season over? What a job to gain the lost confidence.

Marquette and Wisconsin are playing well.

I have been watching the games on TV, but haven't seen the end of many yet.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Ky looked good today.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

As a former IU fan( in the Bobby Knight eras), I watched the game today and think UK will go all the way. They really looked good! Lou

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Kentucky - 80
Indiana - 41

Austin Peay - 63
Louisville - 80

Murray State - 49
Pittsburgh - 70

Even though The Cats clawed up on IU today, it's still to early for me to say that they will take the prize in the end. One of the things that I see that could become a problem for them is their small size. However, if they can jump out in front of their opponents and maintain a good lead cushion, they should be okay.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Kentucky showed a lot of quickness today. The first tme I really watched them this year. Quickness to me is the one thing a good team must have. Coming down court from behind a player and blocking a shot shows a lot of desire to win especially with a big lead. One of the main things in basket ball is when you have a team down don't give them a chance to get back in the game. Kentucky showed me something today.

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

Georgiaredclay, how good is Georgia? They play Pitt right after Christmas. I think Georgia has had Pitt's number for the past several seasons.

And how about Georgia Tech!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

GT looks like they might have something this year.
I haven't seen Ga. play this year.

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Michigan State
Off to bad start but look out at NCAA tourney time.

Paul
