Hi Marc. I'm happy to meet you and hope you are enjoying your time at DG.

This has been a great thread.

Homestead, FL(Zone 10b)

It's nice to see you Marc. Welcome and happy gardening. :)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

And hello back :-) Nice to see faces with some of the names I see floating around various Forums here at DG.
I am having a blast here at Dave's. I have learned a great deal and have made some wonderful trades, and acquired a LOT of seeds over the past couple months. ( This whole trading thing can get WAY out of hand )
I look forward to a long stay here in Dave's Garden.

Marc

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hey Marc, is your seed box like mine? When late winter came along, I said to myself that I needed to get rid of some of the seeds. Something happens when I do trades though...I seem to get way more than I give. Now I have even more and the real estate isn't going to handle them all. Such generous people here!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Marc, so glad you decided to come over to visit on the brug forum. We have a ball here 99% of the time!

I will warn you , once here you will not want to ever leave!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

To true Brugie, my seed box (boxes) have gotten out of hand.
I'm on a couple of seed exchange/round robins on one of my Yahoo Groups, so hope to get rid...I mean 'share' some of my seeds with others :-)
I have the following seedlings growing along just since Feb.
100 Dats (White, Purple, Blk Current, Yellow)
200 Daylilies (Asst flavors)
20 Purple Hyacinth Bean vines
100 MG (Asst)
5 Trumpet Vine
4 HoneySuckle 'Arnold's Red'
50+ Coleous babies
25 Martha WA geraniums
10 Dierama 'Angels Fishing Rod' grass
Purple Majesty Millet (lots)
10 Blk Knight Butterfly Bush cuttings
6 Pieris Japonica cuttings
1 Australian Mint Bush cutting (only 1 survived)
10 Red castor bean plants
10 Butterfly Flowers (Poor man's Orchid)

And more seeds on the way........ UUUGGGGGG

All of this is crammed into a small 8X8 stairwell atrium room that gets LOTS of sun, both morning and afternoon.....supplimented with grow lights as well.
My partner think I'm a loon :-)
man oh man do I need a greenhouse hehehehehehe

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Wow, Marc... Welcome! Lot's of seeds to keep you busy! No Brug seeds yet?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I know what you mean about needing a greenhouse. I have a small 8x10 greenhouse, but with almost 200 brugs from cuttings and seedlings, I'm cramped. I have tons of Evolvulous and Petunias growing and many varieties of perennials and annuals that will have to be transplanted into cell packs soon. Just getting started on the veggie seeds, so I'm in big trouble. Haven't even given a thought to all the morning glory, castor bean, hyacinth bean, and many other kinds of seeds yet either. Yep, big trouble here!! LOL!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh My! You sound worse than me, Shirley! I gave up on seeds. Anything that hasn't already been sown is going to be sown in the ground in about two weeks. I don't have one inch of space in my little GH, and there is so much more I wanted to start :) DH is going to have to build me a bigger one! LOL

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Nope no Brug seeds yet Kaufmann....but they're coming :-)
Truly don't know where I'll put them when they do arrive. I'm sure I'll find room somewhere.

Marc

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Hi Marc, Great to see you. Dave's is a great place to meet fellow gardeners.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Marc, don't just "put your brugs somewhere", start planting them! :)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

This is a VERY addicting site. I spend FAR to much time surfing around here.
I'm sure that will change as I am able to spend more time out in the gardens.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Marc,
.........Don't bet on it ...LOL
We just don't sleep much.

I wonder just how far I can go out in the yard with the laptop since we now have satellite internet ... I could garden and still be among friends.

Well then .. we would just need a laptop harness. Heck they have a table to go over the tub out for that purpose.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Here's your laptop harness LOL, LOL!!!

http://www.mobiledesk.com/infocase%20pages/harness.htm

I can picture all of us with our laptops working in the garden with our laptops around our necks!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh my gosh, you weren't kidding Gretchen. LOL!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL. The answer to my DH's prayers. He would strap one on me and send me to the kitchen! LOL

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Gretchen, when you have a bigger greenhouse built, make it at least three or four times the size you think you need. LOL Then in another year or two you'll be wanting to build another because that one is two small. We're starting our third one. I won't let him tear down the other two. LOL You know, I may need them.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Ada, I'm so jealous. I'd give anything to live in a warmer zone, but to have three greenhouses..........wow, I can only say I'd be in hog heaven.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Ohhhhhhh Ada: I am so green (with envy) :)

I had already decided that when he does build it, we will keep the little portable one to set up as temporary overflow, but he doesn't know that yet.

How big are your greenhouses? You must have a lot of property!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Gretchen, one is only 12 X 12 and the other one is 20 X 30. The one we're building this year has got to be much bigger. LOL I have those two full, plus two stalls in the back garage and have four big plant stands in the house plus tinfoil pans of seeds setting all over the backyard with winter sown seeds. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Ada, we need pictures. Can't imagine where you put all that stuff.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Wow Ada! You must have a humongous yard, or do you sell your plants? I'm impressed. I've seen some of the pictures of your brugs that you've posted, and they are beautiful! I keep wondering how I'm going to overwinter my brugs if we don't build a bigger one. My original intention for it was just seeds, that was BB (before brugs)! Now I don't have room for all the seeds I wanted to have ready by now. Oh well, most will probably do better direct sown anyway. Just not the blooms as early as I would've liked. Maybe there will be brug blooms!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

No, Gretchen, I don't sell plants. I just try to plant the world. LOL That's what DH says anyway. I share with friends and neighbors. I plant my neighbor's (cousin) yard and my son's yard and try to get my sister enthused with gardening. She could care less for gardening. LOL

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

I've never tried Winter sown seeds. What is the difference in that and sowing them where you want the plant? What is the benefit? I'm just curious, always wondered about that. Thanks!

PS...sorry to have hijacked this thread so far off track ...

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Gretchen, most of the seeds don't come up until it's warm enough and what does come up earlier, I think are stronger plants. You'll have to visit the winter sow forum on gardenweb. Last year I had over five hunder containers of seeds winter sown. LOL Nearly worked me to death trying to pot them all up. I gave plants away left and right. I didn't try to plant that many this year.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

That's interesting. I have quite a bit of stuff coming up that was self sown late last Fall, and even some cosmos which is not cold hard here. Wonder if that's the same idea? I will definitely look that up tomorrow. I need to do a little studying or I'm gonna be the one in the dunce cap tomorrow! A good evening to y'all :)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Gretchen, that's the same idea as winter sowing. Hope you get enough studying done. I'd hate to see you in a dunce cap. LOL

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I'll bet Gretchen would look cute in a dunce cap, but she doesn't need to worry about that. She is much too smart.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Hi Marc, nice to meet you. You will like it here.

Mesilla Park, NM

Scoot, that was a great slide show.. just wanted to mention how much I enjoyed it. Thanks. A
