Growing Erica from seed

Tottori, Japan(Zone 9a)

Hello,
Does any one know of a good way to germinate Erica seeds. I happen to have some of these seeds.
Thanks.

I've scattered over sandy soil in a tray... press in hard, keep slightly moist.

Thank you DeepRoots. If you don't mind, would you please inform me of optimum temperature or seasom for germinartion
and number of days from sowing to germination.
Thanks,

Erica is a huge genus. so I cannot generalize.
keep it warm but not hot... for most kinds if i recall it was in the 60's or so.

I pretty much forgot about them for a bit and they germinated. Calluna seem easier still.

I have heard that a number of Erica species germinate much better with a smoke disc. Have you used these?

Willacoochee, GA(Zone 8b)

i try not to smoke much more than tobacco, but i doubt it helps germination.

Thank you for your advice and information. I think it advisable for me to use smoke disc. I'll buy it and then I'll try to grow Erica. Thank you.

If you don't mind my asking, What is a smoke disk and how do you use it?

Its a little cardboard type thing impregntated with chemicals that simulate those from a natural fire, in most cases you soak the disks or tablets to release the chems. Some seeds germinate better after these fires as the chems help break down the hard seed coat.
