Favorite Canna's

Williams, CA(Zone 9a)

We have some red fountain grass planted on each end of a border next to our house, with some old cannas in the back that are not even blooming any longer. I would like to plant more cannas but would like your suggestionas to which would complement the grass and the cannas the best. The taller the better, as I will be planting them in the rear. The bed is about 12 ft long and 4 ft wide
Thank you!

My favorite for unusual foliage and lovely flowers is called Australia. They can easily hit 6-7 feet. The flowers are a nice bright red and the foliage is almost burgundy color.

Not sure if the dark foliage will work with or against your grass.

I really like the dwarf ones // and I know you are looking for tall ones -- I thought if you could find some tall ones in these colors that they would look nice with red fountain grass --

Here is dawn pink / I really like the color of the foliage:

and this one has my favorite flower:
Maudie Macolm - has bright salmon pink flowers, stunning, I am so glad that they multiply fast because I really wish I had bought more of these:

When I bought these in dwarf size, I was told by the company (Horn) not to fertilize them and if I did that they would grow much higher than 3 feet and could reach 5-6 feet.

Intrigue for height, and Tropicanna for color would make a wonderful array.

I like them all, but Red King Humbert http://plantsdatabase.com/go/37522/ and Praetoria http://plantsdatabase.com/go/3303/ are tall cannas with great foliage and my favorite for flowers is Rosemond Coles. http://plantsdatabase.com/go/37538/ I ordered from Horn's and was very pleased with the quality of the roots. http://www.cannas.net/

Thank you for all of the wonderful suggestions! I plan on using your expertise in my purchase. I do love the dwarf varities that I did see on Horn website. I will be sure to purchase some of these. Good gardening!

I like the 'Bengal' Cannas I got from monrovia. Sorry no picture, but they have bright orange flowers and the foliage is the yellow and limed striped leaves. 4-5' where mine are growing....maybe larger elsewhere.
