Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Girl, you should have *NEVER* given me that nana, nut and chocolate chip bread! I had to go and make some today...I ate a whole loaf myself (and it wasn't the mini loaf either)..I had to hurry and bring the second loaf to my neighbor, I was afraid of having that one around, it would be gone too! I gained 2 lbs today and it is all your fault..lol! I wanted some for my coffee in the morning, but noooooo....miss piggy ate it all...What a yummy bread.

((((hugs to SoCal, miss you bunches))))

edited to edit my hug..(I think I was hugging me instead of SoCal, I still can't get this internet lingo straight)

Oh Lisa, you have me ROTfLMAO.

Don't blame me please, or I'll cry. I told you all that this bread was awesome, now you believe me huh? Next time you make it (if there is one) make sure Jesse is around so he can have it too. Did you make it with or without nuts? I like nuts in mine, but I don't put them in when I make it for others, as so many people have nut allergies.

In case anyone else wants to make this "terrible nana bread", it is in the hard copy and online DG Cookbook, under "Chocolate Chip Banana Bread". Try it, but don't blame me if you all get FAT. hehehehe

I got to take some o' dat bread home w/us! Well, almost home! :>)

Lakeland, MN(Zone 4a)

It looks like a great recipe to try. It states to sift the flour three times. Do you really sift the flour?
Ep

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

epazota...if you pound the corn with a dogwood hammer (to the tune of ♫ Gitchie Gitchie Yah Yah Yahhhh ♫), 3 verses...then change over to a spatula that is weighted down with half a red brick, you'll find that you only need to sift the flour twice. This is especially important when you...er, wait...

(Sorry, forgot ya'll used store-bought flour.) Embarrassed here. :>+

Lakeland, MN(Zone 4a)

lol
thanks, thought it might be the secret to the great bread ;-)

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh Shoe, you have me laughing so hard that I can hardly type. Where do you come up with these stories? And now I can't get that tune out of my head either. haha I will sing that tune next time I make it and see if it works better.

Ep, yes, I do sift it 3 times. I just did what the recipe said to do, even though I don't understand why. If you make this recipe, wait until you see how light and fluffy the batter is after you mix it all together.

Donna

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Thank you SoCal so I am gonna make for my DH soon so will let you know how it turn out.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

epazota, coming from someone that loves to cook, I've learned that anything you take your time to do has got to be good! LOL! SoCal and I had lots of talk about cooking, it is both our passions. This bread is wonderful. The recipe calls for really ripe 'nanas, make sure they are very ripe. If you use only ripe (and not really ripe) it isn't as good.

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

Donna, I agree with Lisa that bread was the best and I plan on making it soon.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I dare not make it!!! Trying so hard to lose some weight!!! Begone I say you temptresses!!!!! (is there such a word??) lol!! Lisa...I nearly died when I looked in the fridge this morning to have some of your fig jelly on my toast. There remains but one quarter of it - now I'm going to hide it!!!!!!!!

Do you use English walnuts or Black walnuts??

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

I used pecans, didn't have walnuts on hand.

LOL mags! hide the figs..heheh

I Always sift my flour whenever I make anything, unless it tells otherwise.
Looks like another good recipe for me to use and make as gifts for the upcoming holidays

main reason for sifting is to separate and aerate the flour particles to make them absorb liquids better. Also, sifting does make measuring flour more even.
Sifting the flour lightens it by adding air - helpful if you are going to fold it into beaten egg whites.

Lakeland, MN(Zone 4a)

I find sifting quite "putsy." Do you use the old fashioned sifter that you squeeze and release? I enjoy cooking and making good (good as in tasty or in healthy) things to eat. But, I try to do it as effeciently as possible. I do fluff my flour before measuring just in the flour container, but it sounds like it is not the same thing as sifting.

Grove City, OH(Zone 6a)

Sift!

I have tried both types of sifters, and I prefer the kind that uses the sideways whisk. LOL it is hard to describe the mechanism! It has a crank on the side which turns a 5-wire whisk above a screen. Mine holds about 3 cups.

It really adds to the lightness of whatever baked goods you are making. I have made a couple of cake recipes that require you to sift up to 5 times before adding the flour! Even the flour that is labeled "pre-sifted" really should be sifted before being used.

And, of course, I clean the floor after cooking. Also the walls, counters, ceiling, etc.

OK SoCal...you in a heap of trouble girl!! I did not get a TASTE of the nana bread...and you KNOW how I love chocolate!! (bring some to the AZ RU) *snif*. Jo

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi SoCal, a stupid question here. Do you sift the flour before or after you measure it?

It was great getting to know you. I posted a couple of pics of you on the KRU forum.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Kathy, (Lupine) you are too much. I can just see the flour all over your kitchen, and probably all over you too. lol

Jo, sorry you didn't get any of the bread, and here I brought it especially for you. It must have been all the talking, dancing and visiting that made you overlook this "very decadent, chocolaty, yummy and moist" nana bread. So there, does that make you want it more. hehehe

Kathy (LB) you know what, I have been sifting it after I measure it. Never realized it should be any different. UT OH, more pics of me. Hasn't anyone gotten tired of seeing my puss in all of these pics yet? Going over to see them now as I have been gone all day and just got home.

I'm sure glad everyone liked my nana bread.

Donna

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

we could never get tired of you Donna, that big heartwarming smile of yours...!

I also sift after I measure... although I remember that in Home Ec. in high school, we were supposed to sift first then measure by carefully spooning the flour in the cup.

Lupy, funny, sounds like my kitchen when I sift..try doing it with a five year old that loves to help!

Yes, always remeasure after your sifting process.
I also sift my sugar to get that real fine sugar.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

CoCo, you must be one heck of a good cook!!

You always have some great ideas in the food department and some wonderful recipes. I just love to read your posts when you talk about cooking for a large crowd or just a family dinner.

Lisa, red faced here with blushing. :-)

Donna

SoCal; Don't know about being a good cook; but I do enjoy it.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Note to self: If I bother to sift flour, be sure to sift outdoors.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh Kim, thanks just tooooo funny.

Well, I'm definitely going to have to try this recipe! I know Margaret....diet, diet, diet, :-( Shoe, if you had seen Margaret & I cooking and baking and dancing - yep, all at the same time, getting ready for the ru, you would have loved it. Singing and dancing in the kitchen is good! - I think :-)

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I didn't get any of Donna's bread either... :( But I sure been hearing good things about it. I am going to have to make it. As for Shoe's story I have a feeling this is one story we won't hear. lol

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Peggy,

I promise, you won't be sorry you made it....except after you have eaten 1 whole pan like Lisa did. Then you'll be starting another threatening thread like this one. hehe

Donna

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

...ha, ha! Just a word from the wise, if you eat a whole loaf, you will get heartburn...LOL!

Payneville, KY(Zone 7a)

Hey Shoe, did it have something to do with a "moon" and dancing :)
