Remember Poor Ned?

I just got an email from my dughter Melissa, who some of you met at the Roundup. She has Ned's son, Casey. She planted some new peonies on Friday, and yesterday, as she was getting ready for work, Ned brought one of them in the house for her. He apparently thought she had lost it in a hole and would be happy to see that he had found it for her! He didn't chew it up, so she replanted it and put an old iron grate from a cooker around it. Casey's brother Otis has been bedeviling her sister's gardens all summer, digging nice holes and rearranging plants. Who would of thought that "gardening" was a passable genetic trait in Border Collies!

(Just a note for the newbies, Ned was a lovely male Border Collie who had an affinity for black plastic pots. He would remove the plant and chew up the pot. He did this regardless of where I put the pots, even going up on the front porch, where he was very much NOT allowed to be, to get fresh pots for his destructive habits. He was a sweet dog, but for this one bad habit, oh, and he also dug holes for plants, and did some rearranging on occasion. He unfortunately also had a taste for rat poison and died this spring shortly after fathering his first litter of beautiful puppies. He is missed, and we now know he will never be forgotten!)

lol - Like father, like son!!! Does Casey have to be so choosy?? I mean, would he like to dig up my weeds? I could place the pots near all my garden foes just to make it easier for him!!! I take it then that Melissa is patient!! :-)

Casey is a true son of his father ;D LOL

And will you rent Otis out to gardeners who cannot dig their own holes? I could sure use a helper like that!

Seriously, I am so glad that Poor Ned's kids are healthy and lively, just like him. And I really hope that he did NOT pass along his liking for poison. Poor Ned. *sighing sadly

I think that poison thing was jsut a fluke. I don't think Casey and Otis have too many rats to worry about where they live.

Louisa, Melissa is patient, to a point. The dogs also dug out a bleeding heart that Adam had given her, and for that one she did a little growling. The bleeding heart did not survive.

zi tried to encourage Ned to dig up a piece of lawn that I wanted to turn into garden once, but he apparently knew his place as garden designer and mine as his garden slave!

My dog is one of those diggers and pot chewers. We have growled constantly ever since we got him. We build fences around things in our back yard daily. It is beginning to look like a maze out there. Many folks have told us we are making a mistake by fencing in all the different garden areas and should be fencing in the dog. He is a really big dog and loves to run so we consider this the only solution. When we work in our back yard now it is a little bit tiresome having to open and close so many gates but we are getting accustomed to it. Love that dog but not his habits.
