Updates on friends

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Posting quickly as I think it won't be long before we lose power. Kathy (lupinelover) has made it safely on the first part of her journey. 7.1/2 hours drive. She won't be in touch again until she reaches Tulsa. She may have posted somewhere but I haven't looked yet.

Carol7 was hanging in there when I spoke to her this morning - a tree did come down and narrowly missed her house but she was OK - although the power was out!!

My garden is a mess - totally!! The winds are really picking up and I fear for the trees. Two are quite close to the house, so we are praying. The eye of the storm will pass over us at 2 in the morning and tomorrow we will see the worst of it!! Good grief - didn't know it could get worse!!

I won't check the other posts right now, but hoping you are all safe and coping. Take care everyone and God bless!!

Louisa: Praying for all of you, that God will keep you safe.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

Take care Louisa...I am concerned about all of you right now.

I just tried to call Jody, I guess they are out of power. I heard that they are really getting it. The news just said that they closed the Chesapeke Bay bridge. She lives right by that bridge. The bay is 2 streets down from her. I talked to her last night and she was going to bunker down at her house by herself while her DH rides out the storm on their boat that is docked. I am so worried. I wish she would have left...yall all please be safe.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Wondered how you were doing up there, Weeza/Weezy/Mags. Kinda spooky, eh?

Hope ya'll do well...expect you power to go out so gather some water, turn down the fridge temp to make food last longer, stay away from the windows, all the common sense stuff you already know about, eh?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Thanks Margaret for update on Lupi. I'm home now and awaiting power to shut down. Thanks Shoe - the generator cable is ready to go so we should be good there.

All my employees made it home except for one who missed the Bay Bridge, but he'll stay with relatives. Long night ahead - power up your cell phones now - the vehicles will not be a safe place tonight.

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Good luck ya'll..stay safe and God bless! (((HUGS)))

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Just had a call from Carol7. She said the winds seem to be lessening, but they have 11 trees down in the back yard plus 5 in the front yard. Then, as we were talking, another tree came down on the front porch and is blocking the front door. Adam made it home safely this afternoon, driving in the storm. It took him a long time as so many roads were blocked with fallen trees. They are without power, and expect it to be at least 5 days (according to Adam who works fore the power company). Their yard is very muddy but no real flooding. Adam's truck is stuck in the mud (I think down the street, but not certain) but a neighbor will pull it out tomorrow with his tractor.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Everybody stay safe! Mags you know my number if you need to call. Darius tell Carol I am glad Adam got home safe but I am sure he will busy now since he works for the power company.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Just talked to Louisa her power is out now but she is holding up well and is safe.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

im just reading, watching and praying for all of you!!!!

HOLD TIGHT!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

settling down here...we lost power for a flicker (so far). Winds are still blowing, corn patch is flattened, probably lost a lot of pumpkins too! However...we faired pretty well, especially compared to the down-east folks...tis a disaster area down there, no power (umpteen thousand people), floods, some folks lost their houses. Not a pretty picture.

Keep them in your thoughts.

Oh Lord Shoe, I'm so glad to see you post. Thank God you are all right and have electric - so far. You all come on over if you need a place to stay. That goes for anybody without electric or having storm problems. Take care bud...Margaret....I'm thinking of ya girl! Like I said, if you don't get electric, you can take a bath when you get here LOL...

Crossville, TN

I have been watching the news...and I hope my friend in VA Beach is ok...she is RIGHT ON THE BEACH!! Shoe, good to see you post. Jo

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Vic...still kinda spooky here. No fun. Bet I'll be up all nite watching the weather (but I'm that way, ya know).

We parked all the cars down here in the garden area....trees are falling like crazy...lost a few limbs in the front yard. That is fine with me. We've gone thru worse. I think we should feel blessed on this one. Thanks for your thoughts.

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

I am so glad to be hearing from some of yall..Been watching the news and it really looks bad in places...take care all... Dee..........

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I've been watching the updates, too and am glad to hear from so many DG friends in the threads here.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

I'm praying for all of you in the path of this storm. My daughter use to live right on the beach front in Virginia Beach but has moved to Richmond. When she called this morning it was almost too still. The sun was shining but the city was gearing up for bad weather. Schools out, businesses closing, thousands of people on the roads headed inland as far as possible. When Bonnie went thru several years ago she was in VA Beach and I implored her to go inland to Richmond where her boyfriend's family lives. They went inland alright. Clear in to central Missoui to visit us on my birthday. I wasn't even home when they got her as I had gone to K.C. to visit friends.
May GOD be with all of you and keep you from harm.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Margaret! Stay safe and I'll keep watching for updates. I have only been in one storm with winds over 100 mph and have never forgotten it even though I was just a teen at the time. Scared the daylights out of me! So I worry about all of you that are in the path of these monsters.

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I've also been watching this thread for updates on all our friends on the east coast. I'm so glad to hear that at least some of you are doing ok. Anyone hear how Candee is making out.

My thoughts are with all of you at this time.

Donna

Frederick, MD(Zone 6a)

Quick check in here. Things are a mess with trees down and gardens twisted but family if all safe. Anyone hear from Candee, Jeanne, Margaret, Shirley, Jody and all? Glad you're safe Shoe, Carol and families.

Dea, I talked to Peggy last night and Margaret is without electric, her garden is shredded, but her and family are safe and ok!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

vic, I heard on the news that some of the area around Charlottesville where Margaret lives got 16 inches of rain. If her garden wasn't shredded, it would be drowned.

My heart is so heavy for all in the hurricane's path. Thankfully, our DG family is safe -- but what havoc they have to deal with. I'm praying for each one, and all of their families.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

I was holding my breath when I loked herre this am. Glad to hear everyone is alright. Everyone take care.

Something I think we all could think about too is that as long as everyone comes through this okay (crossing fingers), the biggest emotional losses may be their precious plants. I know from this wonderful group of people that everyone will step up to help fill these wonderful peoples lives back up with flowers. :) ((all))

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Ditto that........ I will gladly share what I have with folks that need to replace what was lost....Just post what is needed and I am sure someone here will have it and can help out.......... :o)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I know what you mean about holding your breath, Janice! Like some have said here, plants can be replaced and homes repaired - Thankful to hear that the people are okay. Waiting to hear about others, still.

Crossville, TN

I tried to call my friend in VA. Beach...couldn't connect. But talked to Sami...she had heard from her Daughter in Norfolk. No power there. She had minor damage...upstairs window blown out...and limb blew down in the yard. She said they had ordered evacuation before hand at Willowby Spit and Ocean View areas. Jo

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

haighr (Candee) posted on the "Hurricane Isabel" thread that they made it through fine. One big tree split, and some debris around. Power backon.

Carol7 says they may be a while without power in her area, Hampton Roads I think is the general area and includes Virginia Beack, Norfolk, etc.

I am so glad to see everyone checking in and others posting for those that cannot. THANKS!!!

Margaret has called twice on her cell phone but I've missed her and she has left messages. I have called her 3 times on her landline and getting recorder but it must be batteries????? as she is telling me she has on my recorder she has no electric. She says they are ok. If anyone talks to her, tell her I'm trying to call and need her cell phone number. She also said they are having a hard time getting a signal...

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Anyone heard from Shoe since last night (he posted here @ 10:32)? How about Jody, Shirley? Anyone else not heard from?

I got an email from Shoe today and he only lost electric for a little while. He did have a big mess to clean up in the yard though :-(

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Just saw a post on another thread where Candee had heard from Jody and Dea and they are ok, and Dea has her power back on.

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

The center of the low passed over us about mid-afternoon and is now in Canada. We have been windy and rainy all day, but this is a much kinder and gentler Isabel than landed on the coast. We were without power for 2 hours this morning, reasons unknown, but it would be odd if it were really related to the storm, as it was very mild then. We are under scudding clouds now and lightening up south and west. The puddles are developing little puddles all their own. Tomorrow is to be dry - we can only hope!

Hope everyone that wore this storm out east and south is back up and running.

markleysburg, PA(Zone 5a)

We had some heavier rain last night and anticipate some stream and river flooding coming down from MD and WVA/ I spent Wed and Thursday in state capitol at State Emergency Operations Center. We realized we were probably going to luck out on this one but was afraid for the places in Eastern PA that got it last week. Lots of trees down in eastern PA but damage really small compared to other places.

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

I've been trying to call Jody for 2 days now and can't get through. I finally got an email from her mom saying that Jody wanted my # to call. Her mom said that both Jody and her dh were ok, but they had lots of damage. I am hoping to talk to her very soon. I'll let yall know.
